It was wonderful to see both Maya and Blue 33(11) return much earlier this year. Maya arrived back on the 21 March and 33(11) on 27 March .
Since arriving back Maya and 33 have reestablished their partnership and are busy preparing their nest to hold these precious eggs which we so eagerly await.
Maya laid her eggs after 9 days last year so we could see eggs anytime from 6 April.
Thanks for that info Tiger ... so it was EJ who laid after 8 days! I watched that year but had forgotten about this.
Yes Clare .... that would be Nethy and what a girl she was! Also she was huge if I remember right.
I wasn't watching the nest until 2012 but I've read back through the blogs. 2008 was Orange VS's last year - well, his only year of being the official LG male.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
I am pleased to see the topic of incubation came up again - thanks Clare and Lmac.
Was thinking about it when shopping and couldn't understand how the egg is not being incubated if the adults are sitting on it, turning etc. So yes, incubating must have started.
Sorry to go on about it here ... happy to move over to Osprey Chat Thread if others prefer.

Did Maya not lay a very early egg in 2014? The clutch that got kicked out by Blue 33 ?

Well remembered Tiger! Must check this as something is telling me Yes and it was only about 3 days! And some explanation the female can start the egg production process when they arrived back! Interesting ........
Edit ... thinking more about this as I look for the blog, I think now she laid 3 days after mating with Blue 28(10) !
Maybe Maya knows something about the egg that we don't Karen, could it be infertile and would the birds know that???;I have no clue as to why she would leave it so long. Does one of the US birds not do this frequently, accepting the weather is much warmer, was it Dunedin who didn't incubate overnight. Tiger will know I'm sure.

Here you are. An Early Easter Egg
The most amazing example of a severely chilled egg hatching was Dulas at Dyfi in 2011
But who could ever forget this? It was D-Day for this egg and dad to the rescue
Thanks Tiger .... I have just found it and I should have known you would post it as you are always so well organised :-)
So she laid the egg on the 9th after starting copulating on the Sunday which was the 6th so it was 3 days! Also about the early egg development. A good find and interesting ... thanks
