HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's Chat Thread is here.
In the U.S., we change to Daylight Saving Time tonight. I shared this link on my Facebook page, and I thought I'd include it here. This is Shades State Park (Forest), which is just down the road from me. My grandfather was a park ranger there for many years. It's one of my favorite places in the world. I'm so ready for spring weather.
Everyone have a wonderful week!
What I love about the Hoosiers is that, despite several possible and some very contrived negative and derogatory etymologies, they have proudly owned the name for generations now and don't look likely to give it up!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
I agree, OG.
Hi all
Thanks for starting the new thread, Diane.
Sorry I've not posted for what seems like ages but I'm often at a loss to where time goes these days. Saw three Goldfinches in the garden this morning before I had to head out to work. Then I saw a male Siskin not long after I got home. These add to the usual happy arrangements of Starlings, House Sparrows, Jackdaws etc. I'm lucky to have so many species of wild birds in my area.
The weather was quite warm today, peaking at around 13°C (a heatwave by the standards of Glasgow and neighbouring districts). I even spied a strange yellow orb in the sky, trying to squeeze through the clouds who were having a lazy Sunday. Can't say I blame them.
Here's to a good week for everyone.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Hi Paul, so good to see a post from you. The garden birds are very active at the moment and eating so much of the seed etc. I do hope all is well with you. Working on a Sunday never seems right. It was warm here in the sunshine, but when I was in the shade, it felt quite cool. It is still March, after all.
Today is a public holiday for Adelaide Cup (horse race). Last nanny day I started to ask Dau if she would like me to swap to Wed but she said “Yes please” before I finished! Yesterday I attacked our weeds to find the first green tips of spring-flowering bulbs. I must find and bury those I had dug up months ago. Now, just where did I put them? OH has found a bird’s nest high in our crab apple tree. Very versatile and modern nest – it has bits of plastic woven with the twigs. Interesting that Annette changed her clocks this weekend. We have to suffer daylight saving (?) for another 3 weeks. I found a website and learnt that Aussieland is one of very few that don’t change until 3 April. We rank with Namibia and Mexico.
.
{{{HUGS}}} for Margo.
Hi Brenda :)
For my sins I work in a large department store in Glasgow, so each week I'm either scheduled for Saturday or Sunday. Thankfully I'm mostly outside in the garden centre, which softens the blow. Been in that place for nearly three years but still don't think I could stand any more than a few minutes inside the shop when the heating system is on at full blast. Of course your right about it still being March and as a local saying goes: Sometimes you need to stand directly under the light bulb to get a heat.
AQ: Good luck with the bulbs. Good to hear your Oh found the nest of a species that isn't afraid to mix the traditional and modern styles.
Hallo all:
Diane: I've visited the Shades Park web site before, but will check it out again when I don't need to think too much. Smiled at "desperation pie." I see it's #2 on the list of 50 Things Every Hoosier Must Do. Fascinating info on the original of Hoosier.
Heather: Feeling better in myself from the nose down, but now sinuses seem to demanding equal time. Ears too - it's a bit like wearing ear plugs all day. Water, tea disappearing by the gallon. Will be so nice when I can have a nice glass of wine - and taste it too. Still, getting a lot of sorting through stuff accomplished, so no biggie.
Brenda: Thank you again for keeping us up to date on how Margo is doing. Friday sounds like it was an extremely difficult day. I think we all share your admiration of how she and her OH are coping. Let us know how the sonic cat scarers work. I wouldn't want to get one right now because of Lightning, but we do have a couple of neighbor cats that are just waiting to expand their borders.
OG: Is that mowing over the hedge or in your own garden. Good the church service hit the spot, that J is better and that lunch got the thumbs up (but can't imagine any other review possible at your table). Sorry about Dau#1; I guess you've asked outright about any misunderstanding. Like Heather, I get immediate feedback about any missteps.. :-)
Heron: Nice to see you and don't worry about keeping up; after all, you're still coping with an actual job! Still one in a garden center job sounds tolerable.
AQ: Wait! The first spring flowering bulbs? We've just put our clocks forward but you're seeing flowering bulbs? Um.... I'm very confused. Congrats on perfect timing for your new nanny schedule.
I may give the whale count a miss tomorrow; even though we can sit down for the shift. Definitely will pass on yoga. Gyms are one of the top places to pick up bugs. Last week I went to use a piece of equipment butthe instructor whipped it away saying the woman who'd used it in a previous class had been coughing throughout.
Off to take a shower before OH decides it's time for his. Must make an effort to cook something tonight - some veggies need eating.
Take care everyone.
Good Morning Everyone. A rather cloudy start, but promises to brighten up later. A cold easterly breeze though. I noticed that we have to go to the Western Highlands tomorrow for the highest temperatures. 17c
AQ, Get those bulbs buried quickly. It is not good for birds to be using plastic in their nests. What are we doing to our wildlife. They have been highlighting on TV this morning, that people must stop feeding just bread to the ducks and geese. Bread causes gut problems and malformation of their wings.
Annette, Pity you will miss the whale count and the gym, but obviously a wise decision. Hope you return to your normal healthy self very soon.
No, No, Annette, sorry to confuse you, these spring-flowering bulbs will flower in spring (Sep etc DownUnder). Just now the first green tips of the leaves are beginning to appear and will thrive on our winter rains. When winter finally comes.
