What do gardeners, baseball fans and osprey watchers all have in common? “ In the Spring a young man’s (OSPREY’s) fancy gently turns to thoughts of love”, and especially in the spring, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast.”
As gardeners planting seeds and wee plants, we can envision that perfect colorful garden that for me anyway never quite materializes. As a baseball fan I can envision my Cincinnati Red’s as World Champions come fall, or at least playing in the Playoffs.
As Osprey lovers, now is when we wait and HOPE and wait some more, while we envision first EJ’s return, then Oden and some spectacular sky dances. Then the mating, then three beautiful eggs and then (Oh, joy) three perfect little bobbleheads. Best not to think too much further ahead, lest we get into the time of parting and tears. But that is for later.
Now is the time of HOPE.!!
Hello, Ann Thanks for ALL your info. I will make note of where you live, so I won't forget. Your hellebores must be beautiful. My one plant is more than 20 years old also. I bought it by catalogue, which may be the reason I haven't bought more. I no longer get flower catalogues and I don't see hellebores for sale locally, either potted or as bulbs.

My first glimpse of a wee bobblehead this season - - at Pink Shell nest, Florida. http://www.pinkshell.com/osprey-cam
Now there are two at Manton Bay.
I meant 2 birds, but also 2 views.
LOCH OF THE LOWES
Hello June. The Humbugs are stripy but these particulat ones are not the proper ones. The original ones are darker and stripy, bobbleheads are also stripey ! I think thats why they got that name :)
OK Now I get it. It's the stripes. Yes just after the actual bobblehead stage (which only lasts a few precious days) When the body and neck begin to strengthen a little, they have a very strong stripe down their backs.
Today marks the Vernal Equinox (Equinox Latin for Equal Night). Today the sun spends roughly equal amounts of time above and below the horizon and from today the days get longer and the nights shorter until the pattern reverses on June 20th.
Also in the Northern Hemisphere it welcomes The First day of Spring.
Just returned over the seas from My Island of Dreams where high in the sky is a bird on the wing (Please carry me with you).
Well the ospreys are starting to touch down each day now and it is good to see the female back at LOTL hopefully to breed as successfully as last season - Good capture June.
A mixed bag though with one not going to make it back (BEATRICE) but hopefully at her nest someone else will move in from far away. I do not find it sad when we loose an osprey as it gives an opportunity for another osprey and there are many unpaired about waiting for the opportunity to pair up with a mate and gain a nest.
I am sure the season will start with a mixed bag of fortunes.
Now need to catch up on the news - The weather in Central Scotland is perfect Spring. I will probably go up to LOTL early in the week when it will be quieter.
Good evening June and Keith. Im doing a Sunday 12 hour shift its a joy to be going to work in daylight and returning in daylight in the morning!
I feel very sad about Beatrice also Blue XD. Will be interesting to see who returns this week. Also a breeding season ahead with many mixed fortunes and very interested to see what Blue24 will do this year, she has not been so lucky:) What will White 14 do this year? Cant wait to find out:)
