What do gardeners, baseball fans and osprey watchers all have in common? “ In the Spring a young man’s (OSPREY’s) fancy gently turns to thoughts of love”, and especially in the spring, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast.”
As gardeners planting seeds and wee plants, we can envision that perfect colorful garden that for me anyway never quite materializes. As a baseball fan I can envision my Cincinnati Red’s as World Champions come fall, or at least playing in the Playoffs.
As Osprey lovers, now is when we wait and HOPE and wait some more, while we envision first EJ’s return, then Oden and some spectacular sky dances. Then the mating, then three beautiful eggs and then (Oh, joy) three perfect little bobbleheads. Best not to think too much further ahead, lest we get into the time of parting and tears. But that is for later.
Now is the time of HOPE.!!
Hi June. Nice to see you and your Osprey captures. And I love Hellebores, too--we have several and bought another one today. It is a deep red and a double--gorgeous. Sorry no pic. Signing off now--pleasant dreams!
Kind regards, Ann
Hello Ann, glad to hear about your hellebores. They are not a common old-fashioned flower here, yet they seem to flourish and be long lived without spreading where they are not wanted. I know of some red in Ireland, Willow I believe has purple in England. Would you remind our Gabbers of where you are located, if you don't mind.
They are so easy to care for that I shoul d buy another plant or two.
This is what I found on the Carnyx linc from last year.
Does Loch Garten really have the 2016 cam up and running already? We are usually holding our breaths to have it installed by the first of April and the arrival of our birds. There is no new blog and I skimmed down the last one, but found nothing about a cam.
Now I get the nitelite. It does seem to be live.
Loch Garten Carnyx, Lock of the Lowes, and Dyfi osprey cams are all up and running, and I'm getting them fine. Although they are all still empty.
But at Rutland Manton Bay I get an error signal.
Hello June love your white hellebores! Ours are purple but they were not that good this rsome reason. May have to buy more, as I love their early colour!
Good news that 30(05) has finally left her beautiful beach and heading through Sahara. Best wishes to her and all the others for a safe return home. 30(05) generally a fast traveller but last year was held back by terrible weather as were many others including Maya. I think some of us thought we had lost Mrs 5R or Maya. Safe return to all :)
June you askedlast year why baby ospreys were sometimes called humbugs!
Saw them in a shop and thought of the humbugs soon to born hopefully. Humbugs are minty sweets but these are not the originals I remember when I was a kid. We were not allowed sweets when we were kids only special occasions :)
June, We are in west Surrey in southern England. As for Hellebores--we have had several over the years, most in pots on our patio, in partial shade where they seem to thrive. We have half a dozen at the moment. We bought a stark white one similar to yours a few weeks ago. Our oldest pot has two, one is purple and the other nearly white, a sort of cream. Those two are looking very good at the moment, though they are probably 20 or more years old. We've only lost a couple over the years, probably from neglect, but the rest seem to thrive on it with only an occasional feed and regular water in the growing season.
Willow, Love the humbugs pic!
Heres my purple one from last year
