Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 28 February 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY LEAP YEAR DAY (MONDAY)!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

Annette: This is the way that you encourage moles and gophers to leave your property. LOL LOL

Everyone have a wonderful week.

  • A text from Linda.

Enjoying our rest, although weather disappointing so far. Have had some rain and a lot of cloud. Good meal out last night. Lemon Sole in saffron sauce.

  • Just to say we heard a loud "thud" around the time I was preparing evening meal. Sadly missed any bright lights as we put it down the RAF boys at Lossiemouth.

2 days of washing ironing, packing and sorting out 2 weeks of meals in the freezer for himself.

Daisy will have her veggies delivered on a regular basis by Mr Tesco.

  • Good morning – a dreich day here – rain started while were out last evening and must have continued all night, judging by puddles; none falling right now, but looks like only a few hours’ respite, especially being hairdresser day!  Daily morning tasks done, and washing machine loaded; some ironing from yesterday, but not worth getting ironing board out for three items -although tomorrow I’ll probably wish I had done it before it morphed into six or more!

AQ – pleased that Daughter is being thoughtful enough for you to get rest days before and after your weekend trip!  I hadn’t realised that Miss 4 had reverted to tantrums – I hope she will soon grow out of them permanently, especially if the twins suffer for it.  I am afraid I would have laughed out loud at Miss 4 when she hurt her toe through being violent with one of the little ones, but glad your SiL was resourceful enough to suggest a cure!

Oh, Clare – can tell you are a younger one, laughing at the wonders of Broccoli – there are thousands of older people with osteoporosis wishing they had eaten their broccoli (and other calcium rich foods) when they were younger!

SunnyKate – welcome!  My treatments include a couple of topical herbals (but a bit wary of internal ones).  For one thing, the ointments and creams are carried in vegetable oils, rather than the mineral oils (eg liquid paraffin) used in prescription items.  So not surprised at the Broccoli rub!

Brenda – we all wished each other a Happy St David’s Day at breakfast, even though we have no close Welsh connections, so I echo your wishes.  Thanks for the bulletin from Linda – sorry about the weather – they could have had a wet rest nearer to home!

Wendy – must have been a big thud which you heard if it came from Lossiemouth – I wonder if we shall ever be told?  I hope you won’t be too tired for the holiday after all that preparation!

Think I might be searching for tasks for us both later this morning, then all three appointments crowded into the afternoon – bad organisation!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG himself did comment on the fact that it sounded like a sonic boom.

My reply was don't be daft as Concord sadly has not flown for years.

I will of course get second wind when I hand over my case at a Easy jet check in desk :-)

  • Recorded rainfall in last 24 hours was 3.1 cms (approx. 1 1/4 inch) according to fancy rain gauge on our patio.

  • Good morning everyone.

We were indoors with the curtains closed last evening so didn't see or hear anything. There are many posts about it on FB including one from our local paper asking folk to get in touch if they saw the phenomenon. What I did hear was the ?police? helicopter going round and round for about an hour, during the night. We knew that it would be searching for someone and the local force  posted on FB this morning to say that a lady had been found and is now in medical care.

OH has to go to the AGM of the Probus Club this morning, which is followed by lunch. He is a bit miserable because he just can't enter into proper conversation these days because of his poor hearing. He was at the hospital last week (ENT) and they confirmed that he has very little hearing in his right ear and moderate loss in the left. He is on his third lot of hearing aids, the last two pairs cost a lot of money but don't work miracles, unfortunately. I have to go to the bank and get some pennies and then do a bit of shopping. We always use the ATM inside the bank and just as well, the machine outside our local Tesco was tampered with the other day, apparently.

BRENDA- Thanks for news of LINDA. I hope that the clouds shift.

AQ- I bet you can't wait to get away! Enjoy xx

When BRENDA mentioned the old lady's furniture it reminded me of seeing Sheana's stuff being loaded into a van.

It doesn't matter how old I get - I've always hated green veg of any description.  My calcium comes from cheese and milk (yummy!) - much tastier.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • You are not alone, CLARE! My OH is not at all keen on any kind of broccoli, cabbage or kale except 'pointed' sweetheart cabbage which he likes very much if it is finely shredded. He dislikes french beans and broad beans but eats runner beans and peas. He eats sprouts very reluctantly but only small sweet ones.

  • Yay, Heather!  Perhaps we're related.

  • Just seen a detailed map of last nights meteor path.

No wonder it sounded like a sonic boom as it exploded right over our part of Glenlivet.
