Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 14 February 2016

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

  • Lindy: The hormones also had a substantial emotional impact on my Dad. He was also tearful, and it softened his personality. Did your OH take the injections in the spring (April?), before the radiotherapy, or after his treatments were over in the fall? My Dad took tablets instead of injections.

  • OG/Brenda: It's predicted to get weirdly warm again on Friday and through the weekend. Could be 60 F or 15.5 C. The weather here has been so variable this winter. The wildlife doesn't know whether to hibernate for winter or mate for spring!

  • Good Morning Everyone. Rain overnight, but it has stopped now. A very grey cloudy morning. I do hate to see trees felled, but we both remarked this morning, how much more natural light was coming through to the back sitting room. So we are quite pleased.

Annette, I know you rather enjoy driving, but what a timetable you have given yourself. All will be forgotten though, when you see your granddaughter and Miss D.

OG, In my ignorance, I had to to 'look up' your tablets. I understand now. We did cover this subject when we last spoke. Disturbed sleep and weird dreams must leave you still feeling tired in the morning though.
I felt so good last night when I finished the ironing but, who put that washing in the laundry basket this morning. There does seem a lot for only two of us again !!
Your weather sounds rather severe this morning. Dangerous driving conditions, so I am pleased to see that ' J'  didn't need an early start.

OH has just arrived with a coffee and a toasted hot cross bun :-))

  • Good morning and it is a beautiful one, here. I slept until 0530- yay!

OG- I do hope that the new topical treatment will do the trick for you. Regarding J and his changing tastes, will you make up a bigger quantity of his likes and freeze them in portions? I tend to that where it is practical since I am eating less and less meat but OH is a meat man. As time goes on this is happening more and more. Some dishes seem to be more freezer friendly than others?

LINDY- these flushes and other distressing things must be very strange for your OH to deal with. At the risk of sounding flippant at least we females are better prepared for such things. I remember as a child listening to mother and aunts discussing 'the change' in hushed voices not meant to be overheard by an overly curious (nosy) little girl! Ditto the details of childbirth.

ANNETTE- Thanks for keeping us up to date with your progress to AZ. Pity about the time difference, though. Have a great wee holiday!

BRENDA- Sorry to read about what seems to be fly tipping in the woods next to you. Such a lot going on in your previously quiet area. I wonder when all the building etc will be complete?

AQ- you will be longing for the cooler weather to start. Not so good about heated swimming pool, though:-(

MARGO- I hope that you will be beginning to feel the benefit of transfusions xx

DIANE and all - we are still waiting for the new solenoid to be fitted in our shower. However, we are managing to switch the water off at present. Hope to hear from them today. His parting words to OH were 'if all else fails, give the power shower unit a sharp bang on the right hand side'. I hope we will hear today because if aforementioned first aid fails then it is another emergency callout and there will be big rumbles of discontent from OH if that is reflected in the bill!

    Have a good day, ALL.

  • Hi Diane, Our temperatures for the weekend could be the same as your's, for some of  us, but with rain and wind. We definitely haven't had your extreme cold temperatures and snowfall though. I hope you feel the benefit of some 'warmth'. The wildlife is confused here. Even the squirrels haven't had to hibernate.
We do worry about you, so do look after yourself.

  • Oh dear, Heather. Sorry your shower is still not repaired. I would be scared of banging the unit too much and causing further damage. Reminds of the TV, in the early days, when we would bang the set, to improve the picture. I guess those TV's were tougher than the present day sets.

  • I agree, BRENDA although so far we haven't had to bang. It has been an intermittent problem for a wee while which my OH has tried to ignore - as he always does. I got fed up with it the last time and phoned the plumbing firm. The water actually stopped running while I was upstairs on the phone but I pretended not to hear the shouts of 'Its OK, I've managed to switch it off'. There are times when selective deafness comes in very handy...

  • BRENDA    people dumping stuff is one of my pet hates. One of the tracks where we dog walk is used by local school children and leads to the local chippy. They obviously finish their chips and dump the packaging. The other day we came across another walker who warned us that there was a whole bag of chips dropped further along the track. There is just no excuse esp as there is a bin at both end of the track. Actually there is no excuse anyway.

  • Diane:  He had injections both before and after his radiotherapy. Then there was a long interval whilst they waited to see the effects, as it takes time to have an adverse effect on the tumour. It was a very painful injection, and he hated it, I could tell, as he's usually stoic about things.

Heather: Your annoying shower is in danger of becoming  A Saga!  Hope it's fixed soon.

Been out shopping with Friend - we enjoyed a lunch of soup and rolls, and I came home with some meat from the butcher's, and a Christmas sweater for my OH which was on Sale price!! It's navy blue with white snowflakes across the front, plus a touch of red. I resisted some pretty polyanthus, because we're off away soon so I didn't want to have extra things to care for. Friend also bought meat, and two shirts for her OH. We felt we'd had a good gossip, especially when she forgot the turn for my part of the town because we were talking so much!! LOL!!

  • Brilliant Spring day up here and with the longer days feeling good and achieved a lot.

Plans for trip to Englandshire 2 weeks today all sorted.

Lindybird and OG sorry to hear about flushes due to said drugs. I must have been lucky as after 5 years on Tamoxafen not one hot flush but there again have never ever had one.
