This thread continues from Osprey Chat Thread for January 2016
It seems almost impossible to believe that a year has passed since I last wrote that we were in the last osprey free month of the new year. Well the clocks have been relentlessly ticking away the hours and days and the great excitement will soon start again.
The Loch Garten clock tells us to expect EJ in a mere 61 days but last year she was late so she may well beat that.

Last year proved to be a very frustrating one at Loch Garten but the fans enjoyed it nevertheless.
Will it prove better this year? No one knows. It you want certainty then ospreys are not the hobby for you.
Last year Blue XD again failed to beat Odin back to Loch Garten. Worse still his breeding season was not a success and the wife may have left him.
Lots of question to be answered this year.
Of course the big news was that Lady and 11 (98) were two of the most high profile ospreys that failed to return in 2015
Two years ago we were asking if Blue YD would come home? Well he did but unfortunately his tracker failed and we did not know if he was alive or dead. Well he is very alive and he was spotted in Africa very recently.
White 14 from Bassenthwaite did come home and totally thrilled us with his antics.
This year we are looking for Blue UV from Kielder to come home and what a thrill that should be.
A lot of birds turned up late last year. Let us hope that they arrive earlier this year.

But as always it is likely that Beatrice will lead the charge north but she is not the fastest of ospreys.
The excitement will build day by day.

I seem to recall seeing an update here about EP and his mate Blue DK abandoning the Wigtown nest in 2014 ... I think something about dog walkers??
I haven't seen any further updates and apologies if I have missed these and repeating but just in case an update on EP hasn't been posted, my friend in D&G informed me that EP did return last year but not to the Wigtown nest and that he successfully raised and fledged 2 young at a new nest site. The chicks were ringed but I don't know the IDs or anything about the female ie if it was a new female or Blue DK.
It was really good finding out he had made it back last year after the terrible weather and of his success. We can only hope they go from strength to strength.

"The Ospreys returned in April they are nesting on the Bay unfortunately not on the tree with the camera but on one to far from electrical source so no pictures this year.
We know the EP is one of the pair but as yet we have not been able to establish the identity of the female and she is sitting on the nest.
Our camera nest was occupied by a mallard when they returned so we believe this moved them to a new site.
Unfortunately this nest has been raided by crows during the 3-4th May resulting to its abandonment by the female.
We will try to keep you up to date with events as and when we can safely gather more information. In the mean time we will keep our fingers crossed that another pair of ospreys find the nest cam appealing and take possession next year. "
Wow, on BBC RADIO6 Music, just heard them reporting about BlueYD being discovered after presumed dead. Fame for our much loved ospreys :-) ps my fave radio station ;-)

This story seems to have gone viral. Thing is that we knew he was alive last August when he was seen in Scotland.

Haha!!!!!!!! Me too, I heard it on BBC Radio 2 while stuck in horrendous traffic at 5pm yesterday. It made me so happy to suddenly hear a news item about an OSPREY on national radio!!! A good news story to boot too!! --even though I had heard it first from this site before :-) Smiled all the way home.....

I'm sure ospreys could have evicted a mallard if they chose. The Manton Bay pair regularly see off the Egyptian Geese.

It will soon be time to start looking at the threads again with the start of spring.
Maybe we should have a navigation tool as it seems that when threads fall below the first page people have difficulty finding them.
Essentially an extension to this tool ?
