HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's Chat Thread is here.
I posted a long list of replies at the end of last week's thread.
Saturday night in the U.S. and Sunday morning in the U.K. is the New Moon (the dark moon) -- the first one of 2016. See here for a list of monthly astronomical events for this year.
Wow, is it dreary here! So I'm inserting a colourful flower for this week's pic. :-) Everyone have a wonderful week.

Evening all: Watched Far From the Madding Crowd last night - still a lovely movie. Tonight it's Dr. Zhivago.
Brenda: Our dentist has two hygienists - we make sure we get the gentle one. Oh my - does Ruby ever get to be a dog? :-))
OG: Seriously brilliant service from the gas people. Tomato, orange and tarragon soup? Sounds very adventuresome - yummy too. Waiting to hear what's on the menu Thursday. I pruned all the roses except for Cecile Brunner today - she's on the agenda for Friday.
Diane: Stay warm there. Was just looking at the Whooping Cranes migration map, which shows a route from Wisconsin, down through Illinois (so West of Indiana), Kentucky,Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Hope they made it okay - with only 600, they can't afford to run into too many problems.
Lindybird: I really need to do something about my laptop, which needs a new battery but is the grand old age of 5 or 6 so probably obsolete. Can't face shopping/learning about any new device right now!
Best ever thoughts to Margo.
Up at daughter's tomorrow - have a nice Thursday all.

Yup, Annette. The Whoopers follow a path close to the Illinois-Indiana border, and small groups usually cross over into southwestern Indiana. Also, sometimes a few Whoopers will hook up with migrating Sandhill Cranes, which migrate through Indiana. Conservationists monitor all the birds. Lots of people follow the daily reports on individual birds here. There's a project that hatches and raises cranes, and then teaches them to migrate so they can be released into the wild. The young cranes are taught their migration route by following ultra-lights flown by conservationist pilots. There's a Crane Cam maintained by the project here. I think some people on this forum follow it.
Brenda: Ruby sounds well-trained, but 6:15 a.m. is early! Hope all goes well. Safe travels.
Lindy: I hope your technology woes are over tomorrow.
Clare: Loved your Minsmere photos. The deer is beautiful!!! Sorry about the damaged binoculars.
Rosy: Well done to you for volunteering at your local thrift shop.
OG: I'm so glad your gas company gave you such good service. That soup sounds wonderful! Safe travels to you, especially if snow arrives.
Hi to ChrisyB.
Best wishes to Margo.
No overnight snow - and nothing falling this morning. Heating is holding okay so far, too. Back later.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Good morning, all! It's cold and clear here at the moment but we have rain forecast for later and possibly snow tonight. Brrrr. I was supposed to be doing a work party today but it has been rained off. That means I can tackle that enormous pile of ironing.......how did it ever get so big? Sigh......
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Good Morning Everyone. Rain overnight, but a clear, cold sunny morning.
Annette, Don't worry, Ruby gets played with a lot of the time. She will get more exercise when she is allowed out on the lead. ( Vaccinations don't allow her out at the moment.)
Good to hear that you didn't get the snow, OG. Have a good drive today.
Clare, I am sure you would rather be taking part in the work party, rather than the ironing.
Linda, Sorry about your computer problems. I guess it just needed a rest and will be fine today.
I need to empty the washing machine now !!!

Good Morning. I've been up for hours, but got carried away with chores, so only just got online. At least something got done around here!
Clare: Sympathies on the ironing. Watch something on TV or DVD whilst you do it, it helps pass the time.
Diane: I remember you mentioning the cranes before, plus they are on Facebook. Hope they all get to have a good journey this year. The series on The Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough ended here last night, with his final words being a plea that we all do something about saving some of the worlds irreplaceable treasures - all the natural ones, of course. Hope you in USA get to see his latest programme, its well worth watching with some gorgeous photography.
OG: Good that you're not getting the snow with all the travel you have to do.
I'm hoping to get to the cinema with Friend this afternoon: we are both a little stir crazy already, and January still has a long way to go.
I have been feeling low lately. I suppose its just Winter Blues. I'm trying to get lots done in the house so that at least it all looks clean(er) and tidier!
Here is a quote which tickled me, when I saw it on a T shirt for sale:
"Old Age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you've got to start young." Theodore Roosevelt.

Sorry to see we have lost another great actor. Alan Rickman, 69.
