Loch kinnordy osprey, yellow left leg ring Black letters JL, i think!,is this a known about bird?
I spent almost everyday at the Gullery Hide last week at Loch of Kinnordy and have been going here at this time of year for the last four years and have seen several Ospreys fishing over the years there.
So are you saying you managed to see the ring number of a fishing osprey there then? I have never been close enough or lucky enough to have the equipment to identify any of these ospreys as they are usually a good distance away from from the hide.
This ring number isn't listed on Sue Cs sheet so therefore not in the public domain, so maybe you should contact Roy Dennis if you would like to find out more information about it.
EDIT. By the way if it wasn't a known about bird then it is now!!! :-)

If it looked pale yellow and you are not 100% sure about the inscription, it might have been White JU.
I believe it's a male and I've seen him at Loch of Kinnordy in July 2015. Roy Dennis confirmed that ring from a batch he handed in 2007 to a ringer in Argyll.
At the time of the sighting White JU was not in any unoffical list either, so there's the chance that Yellow JL does exist and Roy might be able to confirm.
AN UPDATE FROM ABERFOYLE FACEBOOK - they now have three eggs, which is very good news.
MaryGK said:It is an interesting comment they made on FB about Katrine and Drunkie!!!! I was just thinking if Katrine and Drunkie are still around why wouldn't they use their normal nest. It does make you think though that if both male and female do not return to a nest, like 03(97) and his mate is there a remote chance that they are still out there but have gone elsewhere. I don't know enough about this kind of thing, or even remember it being discussed before if that is even a possibility.
Yes Mary I picked up on that as well and thought it was an odd thing to say. Maybe it's just a nicer way of saying they don't know anything for sure. I have not heard of it apart from them moving to a nest in the immediate vicinity in which case you would hope that someone would spot them, whether they would move area is another idea all together.

Thank you Mary that is great news!
Here is the female on the nest not long ago.

Both on/at the nest at Tweed Valley. This is going to be a very late start if they do lay eggs here.

There was a changeover at Aberfoyle just now missed the landing so don't know if there was a fish or not. Could be carrying a fish in the 3rd capture.
STARLING - It is not unheard of that male and female have up sticks and left the nest at Aberfoyle.
In 2010 the two birds on the nest # 1 - Red 6A and Green DX up and left 3 eggs when a rather aggressive bird which we called metal ring arrived. He destroyed the eggs after the other two moved on.
Likewise in 2011 the same bird disposed of Green DX and Yellow OU when he came around. Again they went and Green DX moved to another nest.
Quite a few of the nests about 6 years ago in the Trossachs were unsettled and I have a few records of merry go rounds.
As for Katrine - Drunkie I suppose unless someone sees her ring at another nest then we may not know and unless there is a HD Camera on Drunkie where we can ID some marking as they do so well with in Wales again we may never know. We only followed this nest first known as Nest 3 in 2013 and used as a back up because nothing happened at nests 1 and 2 which were followed.
I only became aware of Green 011 because I was looking for SSK and thought maybe this was her. David later told me he had he had not seen SSK since 2009.
Good morningg all.Thankyou for all the lovely pics and updates. I thought that i read that Katrine had not returned this year. An interesting thought that if a pair had not returned theres a possibility that they may be elsewhere! There might be hope for 3(97) You never know with ospreys anything can happen :)
58Willow - My own thoughts despite my historical post above about The Trossachs is that Green 011 (Katrine) is not around. Although she has only been in the public domain along with this nest for the past few years she has been around for quite some time and if she had returned I am sure we would of heard of her valiantly defending this nest.
Sometimes when one does not return a long term partner may wander off exploring for a another sole mate and vacate the nest for a another pair to move in. So it is possible one of the pairing maybe around. Maybe Drunkie was one of the unidentified birds.
