Oh More sad news
Sorry to be the bearer or more sad news too, Alison who volunteers at LG paid a visit to Lochter yesterday, and one of the chicks was knocked off the nest by a buzzard and was found underneath the nest. Such a shame, as the chicks are a good size now.
I hope that the remaining chick stays safe and manages to fledge.

It seems certain areas are now prone to this sort of attack.
Birdies LG DU update.
Well Lochter certainly seems to be in a heavily buzzard area. Not far from Lochter there is a place that is called The Buzzard Café, so that speaks for itself Mike, plus they have had a buzzard attack nearly every year, although 2014 was a good year for them with 3 healthy chicks to fledging.

Naturally you'd know that!!
No I have never been, but we drive past the sign for it :-) Lochter has a great restaurant so we always eat there.
4 Chicks ringed at Threave
"23 June our 4 chicks were all ringed & checked, doing well. 26 June, another 3 ospreys (totalling 9 at once around) seen over the nest."
Alan, Thanks. Nice to have some good news in the middle of the bad. The male at Threave must be lucky with his fishing, despite the weather, to have 4 chicks 'doing well'! Long may it continue!
Mary and Mike, Sad news about the chick knocked off the nest, but yes, some nests seem to be cursed with this. Perhaps Buzzards are opportunists, and having once predated or attempted to predate Osprey chicks, they probably remember and continue to try again.
Kind regards, Ann
Not one often reported on but Dyfi Chat have just posted that nest ON 5 in Wales has three chicks. According to Emyr that makes 10 chicks in Wales if they all make it to fledging.
Update. Seems this was a second clutch.

The first successful second clutch for over 100 years as far as we know.
