Thankyou for the updates. Very sad to read that the Tweed Valley chick has died. Such a shame but hope they have a better year next year. Such alot is invested by the parents, to bring up and rear chicks :(
Keith sad to read about the irresponsible photographers. Hopefully just a small minority that will do anything to "get the Shot" Selfish in the extreme and hope they will be properly punished!
There were 2 long eared owls roosting in Kent and people were told to keep away so as not to disturb them but 2 photographers ignored this and disturbed them just to get their photo. This is a story that repeats itself everywhere sadly
Tragedy at Tweed Valley
Thanks ALAN So very sad and such a disapointing tragedy
Such a sad sight, not seen birds for a while, my heart jumped when I thought there was two eggs.
What a shame for Tweed Valley. As you say, maybe it was the inexperience of the female, hope for better luck next year.
This week I went Roudsea Wood Nature Reserve, have never been before. I could see the osprey nest and an adult standing there, but there was no one with a telescope so I could not see much with my binocs. A notice on the cabin said that there is at least one chick as they have seen feeding, but they can't see into the nest.
I may not go again as I was chased down the boardwalk by a lot of flies including clegs (horseflies) and did get bitten!

Oh Dear, I know the feeling well, I unfortunately react to any bite with anaphylactic and have even been desensitised for wasp stings.
My saviour is, smother in a 'NEEM' based spray and buy/ carry a' clicker' using that, will disrupt the bite and fortunately does keep the swelling down,
and I then don't have to use medically supplied EPI Pen.
Sad news from Loch Doon
