Thread carrying on from here
So the new year has arrived and now the countdown to the osprey season has seriously started. What will it bring? That is as always a hard question to answer but it will no doubt brings lots of ups and downs.
So what are your wishes for the 2016 osprey season?

Now what do you think?
Getting ever closer, tick tock. Get those chores done and out of the way before then!

The ospreys are back already. See new osprey webcam
Thank you for posting, Tiger. A new webcam to look at in a while.
There is quite a number of ospreys staying in the area during the winter. The province of Grosseto, where nests are located, is a comparatively small area (see here) but ospreys are spotted every few days, below is the list of sightings in the last 60 days from the Italian reporting platform ornitho.it (you might need to click and zoom in to see details).

Such a shame that no further information could be gleaned from the tag, particularly after all the effort that Noisette made in retrieving it and pushing folk to enable a second search.
Some of you may be aware that there has been a second count of osprey residing in Portugal. Volunteers have been allocated areas that cover a large area of Portugal, although of course that does not mean that every inch is covered! Their first count was last year, and numbers are up for this year - but they have had more volunteers, which may mean more have been seen, rather than there being more over-wintering osprey. You can see their data sheet here. Those of you on FB can see their FB page here. The Aveiro River seems to be a good place to go osprey spotting in the winter!!!
Congratulations to Concalo Elias for coordinating this census. I have his permission to put the links here. The information is, however, in the public domain.

Thank you Tiger. Time in Florida is currently 0514 - five hours behind - it is still dark, and an osprey is roosting on the side of the nest :) My first osprey for 2016!
