LOOKING FORWARD TO 2016 BRINGING US A FULL NEST AT LOCH GARTEN WITH EJ AND ODIN AT THE HELM.
Streetwalking inside the lighthouse area.
Not exactly the prettiest lighthouse I have ever seen, but Oh, the view! And the history must be fantqstic.
HOWEVER, considering Keith's photo above and these two Google Earth Map photos, maybe I will have to change my mind about the beauty of the Sumburgh Lighthouse. I especially like the same white paint and gold trim which I admired on the Aberdeen LH and they probably both hve green doors, too.
One of my own favourite lighthouses and its keeper.
You're not telling, so I have to guess. The palm tree tooks tropical or semi-tropical so is it your favorite area of southern Florida. Or even more tropical, as some of your work assignment areas. I'm inclined to think Florida.
Keith, I love the lighthouse keeper!
Kind regards, Ann
Keith, I have been exploring your link and found it to be a real treasure. A collection of small treasures, really. I had mentioned that the Sumburgh Light must have a fascinating history. Every lighthouse has a unique history, some more daring than others. The Sumburgh history is given here and as I surmised it is fascinating one, even moreso than I expected.
Having visited many lighthouses, I have read often of the Fresnel lens and have seen an old out-of-use one. In one short paragraph this link describes very clearly HOW they work.
Also discovered 2 more lighthouses, giving me more streetwalking. There is an excellent map identifying the uses of the various parts of the compound.
Is that "someone you know" by any chance June Spradlin? I know for a fact she would be very happy strolling along that lovely stone fence, catching the scenery as it changed with every advancement and every turn of the head. From time to time leaning against the fence, looking out to sea and down below, just watching the waves roll in and crash against the cliffs. Like The Outer Banks when we first discovered it (too many houses now) there is another picture every way you look. Then more hours in the compound gift shop, etc.
Good thing I checked. My link 2 post back is all wrong. I KNOW I copied what I wanted so why does my link take us to a place I was using on another thread some time back. Oh well I will find a way to correct it. Somehow.
