I am in Aldeburgh I have rented a cottage until the end of June to give me time to decide where I finally want to stay.Aldeburgh is lovely but full of second home owners who disappear when the holidays are over, so I may move a few miles inland to one of the lovely villages. Also a few miles make a big difference in house prices here.

Tell me about it.  Aldeburgh is way, way too expensive for us and, as you say, it's too far off the beaten track.  You might want to check out Leiston or Saxmundham - Halesworth and Beccles aren't too far away either.  We live in Felixstowe which is nearly an hour's drive from Minsmere but is a lovely part of the world with some fantastic scenery and wildlife.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Alan: Oh dear, oh dear......

  • OG: I slept very late, and I've just seen the ghastly flooding in your region. I am so very glad that you're okay. My heart goes out to all who are affected.

  • Thanks so much Clare. Yes I have already checked out Leiston and I love the beach at sizewell so that is a possibility. I also have to start to look for a job so that will be another consideration where I finally buy or rent. Hope to see you at Minsmere soon!

  • What do you do for a living?

  • Heather,  I have had some success with hummus in a savoury pastry case with a little tapenade on top. It is a bit 'fiddly' but even non veggies seemed to like them, and they look good.

M&S do some lightly spiced pastry cases made with sunflower oil, which

    are about the right size.

Have just watched (recorded) Masterchef final.  Wow!  Amazing food that I can only dream of. Carrots four ways?

  • I

I have been in sales all my life- over 22 years with one Computer company so really want a complete change if I can afford it. I would love to do something for wildlife or conservation.

  • Hi, all.

Rosy: I got behind in posting, and I keep forgetting to tell you that I really enjoyed your comments about Stonehenge.

Heather: I hope you are feeling better! Sending healing energy. There are a lot of viruses/bacteria here because the weather has been so weirdly warm. I hope the funeral and meal will go well. I'm a vegetarian, but I don't have anything helpful to suggest for the menu. In general, I find that mushrooms are a good substitute for meat and will please lots of folks, but that's not very specific. I've never been much of a cook. :-((

Brenda: I hope you are resting up from your travels and visits.

Clare: The media are announcing a Guns & Roses reunion next year! I thought of you.

bjane: Nice to see you. Hope all is well.

Lynette: Lovely card. Happy New Year to you!

Harelady: I hope you find a home that suits you and meets your needs. Good luck with new career search!

Lindy: Sorry about your ankle, but I'm glad you had a good time with family.

OG: Glad you've had a fulfilling flinging session! I'm going on an extreme flinging binge here soon!

Hi, to Rita. Hope your situation is improving. Best to you.

AQ: I hope you're getting a few cool breezes.

Annette: I'm so sorry that you couldn't take your trip you had planned to visit your friend. There's probably a way to get Netflix streamed on your TV, even if it's not smart. My brother tried to explain "the work around" to me a while back, but he might as well have been speaking a foreign language, because he lost me.  :-( Hope Peanut is continuing to improve. Your scrub jay is beautiful!

All: I haven't been posting much. The big winter storm caused high winds, relentless rain, and flooding here. My creek turned into a raging river and over-topped the levee, rushing through my backyard and threatening the house. I spent a harrowing weekend with almost no sleep. All is fine now, but I've been a grouchy old bear ever since! Good thing I live alone!

Everyone enjoy the New Year celebrations!

  • Margo: Thinking of you this evening and hope you, OH, and Billie are having a good week.

  • Evening all:  Awful pictures of flooding - here and in the UK.  NASA is predicting that El Nino will wreak havoc in Central and South America. Meanwhile, rumor has it we'll get an actual storm next week rather than the half-hearted efforts up to now.

Lynette: Thank you for the cheery New Year's Card.  I'm afraid I've lost the plot regarding the "Sisley" house, but it doesn't sound encouraging.....

Rosy: Carrots four ways? Hmm. Raw, baked, boiled and - wait, I know! - BBQ'd.  :-))

Just finished Giant Pile of Ironing so no digging for tatty garden togs tomorrow. I seem to have far more tatty togs than spiffy ones. Oh well, a sign of my modest social life no doubt...

    Have a good Thursday everyone.
