HAPPY NEW WEEK!
Last week's chat thread is here.
Hi, everyone.
Cold, grey, and rainy here, with gusty winds coming from the east coast.
Autumn has begun in Indiana, and I thought I'd post these fall foliage maps for the U.K. and the U.S.
Here's the Autumn Colours 2015 U.K.
Here's the Fall Foliage Prediction Map 2015 for the U.S.
I don't have a nice photo to start this week. I'm off to wrap up in my electric blanket and eat some hot northern bean soup.
Everyone have a wonderful week!!!
I confess that I have never tasted Marmite, but I think I remember it being sold at a Scottish restaurant/pub that I used to visit often when I lived in Indianapolis. I went there for beans on toast and "Scotch onion soup".
Annette: Have a GREAT time with your family!
Marmite is absolutely disgusting. Diane, you haven't missed out!!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Now I want to try Marmite to find out just how disgusting it is.
Granddaughter and Ms.D just called from San Bernardino. Apparently Ms D is insisting on stopping frequently at gas stations to use the facilities, but then fails to use said facilities. I told granddaughter Ms. D is merely conducting an independent survey of roadside attractions.
You are probably right, ANNETTE!! Have a great time together xx
PS be warned, Marmite is strong, very salty and very much an acquired taste! My understanding is that it was originally created as a way of using up yeasty leftovers after making beer. I grew up on it, mother used to mix it with butter to make a spread for sandwiches.
Annette: Do you have the Kroger supermarket chain where you are? I just checked, and apparently they sell Marmite in their world foods section. We have those stores here, but I just never paid attention, I guess -- although I have purchased Walkers Shortbread (from Scotland -- Speyside, I think).
Clare: You might like this page. I just saw it in my Facebook feed.
Walkers is in my area as I live on the Spey.
The factory shop sells seconds...which they so are not just good value for locals.
As for Marmite the thicker the better,
A bit like garlic it comes out in your skin and deters midges.
Up here it should be on prescription!!!
DIANE- walkers shortbread factory is in Elgin. When I visit there to see youngest daughter, the buttery sugary smell hits you as soon as you get off the train. Yummy!
CLARE - so that is why the midgies don't bother me?
