Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 4 October 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's chat thread is here.

Hi, everyone.

Cold, grey, and rainy here, with gusty winds coming from the east coast.

Autumn has begun in Indiana, and I thought I'd post these fall foliage maps for the U.K. and the U.S.

Here's the Autumn Colours 2015 U.K.

Here's the Fall Foliage Prediction Map 2015 for the U.S.

I don't have a nice photo to start this week. I'm off to wrap up in my electric blanket and eat some hot northern bean soup.

Everyone have a wonderful week!!!

  • Dibnlib, Always love to see the lovely Benson. Loch an Eilein, is so beautiful.

  • Hello all

Lovely to see your post, MARGO, also everyone's news. I am off on a mission of mercy to middle daughter's house. Amy is unwell with what seems to be a tummy bug. Daughter has taken a day off (unpaid). I haven't yet got to grips with the insulin pump. I have read up all the links from DIANE but we haven't spent the necessary time together for me to learn. It must become a priority otherwise I'm not worth my weight in bottletops as AQ would say.

    Back later

  • Good afternoon all I have been lurking again but have been keeping up to date with things. It is good to hear from Margo again and I have to admire her bravery in coping with the trouble she is going through I would like also to send my admiration to her O/H who is being a brick by her side.

I have been for both my scans now and am waiting on the consultant getting in touch to say what their diagnosis is. I enjoyed my weekend up at Forres and the weather was great with sunshine all the way until I was driving home when the heavens opened and the mist came down which did not make for a pleasant drive home.

At the moment we have rain here but for the past week we have had great weather and I have been able to get all my washing dried outside and also my grass cut for the last time I hope.

Have booked to have our Chr------ dinner at my favourite restaurant and when I was in to pay the deposit on Friday was told that it was now fully booked, they only do one sitting and close at 3pm so they can have the rest of the day to themselves.

I have also acquired a cleaner who comes in for two hours once a fortnight as I am maybe a bit sexist but I think that a woman does a better job of cleaning than a man so for the rest of the time I just keep things tidy.

I hope all those on holiday or going have a great time and everybody manages to keep well. I must remember to go and have my flu jab.

  • Morning all:

Margo: I think setting goals for concerts is a great way to proceed!  Love to read about you dancing in the aisles.

George: Thought your comment re Margo's Super OH was perfect - what a guy he is!  Re your cleaner, it's a known fact that women are superior house cleaners. After all,  a couple of hundred years of cleaning up after men and kiddies has probably cemented that skill in our genes. :-))  I'm tempted to do the same, but I'm afraid whoever I hired wouldn't do as good as job as I do. :-))  Glad you got your Xmas dinner sorted early; who will be going with you? Let us know how you're doing.

Diane: Can't imagine how long it will take to sort out the mess back east.  Do you think the Republicans will really risk the blowback from shutting down the government? Wonder if Boehner's right hand will land the Speaker's position.....

Heather: Good luck with Amy's insulin pump; hope her bug is of the 24-hour kind.

Brenda: Good to hear that Lindybird is feeling more rested.

dibnlib: What a lovely peaceful-looking place you live.

Off to start the (comparatively chilly) day, but they're forecasting the first Santa Ana (hot dry winds) of the Fall this coming weekend. Yuk.

  • GEORGE   glad you had good weather for your weekend in Forres.

We had a most enjoyable 2 1/2 hours with OG and EE. Drinks and lunch at Tiso, our favourite coffee venue. We got home in time to get the washing in  and walk Benson before the rain. Won't need much to eat this evening!!

  • Hello everyone. Any room for another one on here? This seems such a fun, friendly and supportive group, and I would like to join it.

I have been following the Loch Garten webcam since visiting the site in Henry's days. 2007, I think it was.

Much more recently I have become interested in other nests and then eventually discovered this thread.

  • Hello Rosy. We would be very pleased if you would like to join us. If you have been reading our Weekly Page. you will know that we " met' because of our love of wildlife, and especially ospreys. We discuss our lives in general, holidays, in fact just about anything you can safely write about on the internet. Lovely to see your first post and look forward to hear more from you in the future.

  • Hey Rosy: A big welcome to you. As Brenda said, we got to know each other when we were watching EJ and Odin and missed nattering so much we ended up keeping in touch in the off-osprey season.  Where do you live? Most of the folks are in the UK, but I'm in Santa Barbara, California, Diane is in a small town in Indiana, and AQ is in Adelaide, Australia.

  • Heather, I hope Amy recovers quickly. x

George, That sounded like a very unpleasant drive home for you after such a lovely holiday.
I hope your new cleaner proves to be the answer to your housework. My daughter and daughter-in-law don't believe in doing HW. They both employ cleaners, who also do their ironing. Like  Annette says, I am also tempted to have a cleaner, but she would have to come up to my standards. LOL Do let us know your opinion.

Dibnlib, A two and a half hour lunch sounds just about right. I am sure you could have chatted for even longer.

Rosy, Some of us knew Henry and OVS, so you are in good company.  Which nests do you follow ?
I live in East Sussex. I am married, with a married son and a daughter, with a partner.

  • Back again but briefly! Amy is fine. I went up there expecting to see a pale sickly child. Not so. I went to the supermarket and purchased ingredients for their dinner, as a gift. Amy's eyes lit up. My daughter, her mother, needs to toughen up.

I'll reply to posts tomorrow. Welcome Rosy!
