We had zero chicks at Loch Garten nest this summer, so there are none to follow this winter. EJ and Odin have migrated south and with neither tagged we cannot follow them. Sadly, we have lost Breagha, the last tagged LG offspring. Once again a healthy Loch Garten chick is “lost contact, presumed dead”. Even the camera is away for the winter. Thus we have lost all contact with the Loch Garten nest. For the first time since I found EJ and the Loch Garten nest, there is NOTHING LEFT. Nothing left, that is, except HOPE for a better season in 1916.
On this note of hope I will maintain The Gabfest in a semi-retired state. Thus we will be open for any osprey news which comes through, whether it be from UK or USA or Africa. Also any bird or wildlife photos or news are always appreciated here.
Over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve some may wish to share photos of their cakes, Christmas Trees and/or some music videos. Winter gardening, trains, anything goes here on the Gabfest that anyone wants to talk about.
So if anyone cares to come in for a wee chat, the Gabfest may be sleeping, but it is open.
And a favorite from Childhood.
No song, just an old-fashioned greeting.
Good afternoon all. I am enjoying the Christmas songs Keith and June. We have been away for the weekend to visit my family and deliver Christmas presents. We were in Devon and stayed on Dartmoor in a Band B that was for sale. We were tempted to sell up our place and buy it as it was a leasehold property belonging to the Duchy (Prince of Wales) We are still considering but it means working into retirement. A beautiful place in the middle of Dartmoor with old granite bfire places. Lots to consider.
Willow I Have missed you. Glad you are back.
How exciting to be considering buying a new home. I'm ignorant of your geography without looking it up. Is this close enough to your work that you could continue, as I understand that you and your husband both work at the same train station.
No June its almost the opposite end of the country! About 260 miles approximately, but definitely too far to continue my job. I have about 3 years to go till i retire (when I reach age 60) OH can retire now if he wants! Its a bit of a gamble and something neither of us has ever done before. As my Dad said nothing ventured nothing gained. I do love where we live now and would be a wrench we have nothing but sheep around us at the moment. Well see maybe get cold feet1 LOL
I still have not iced my cake maybe leave it till after christmas. OH has bought a small Christmas cake maybe hes trying to kindly tell me something :) Im still pouring brandy onto it so it must be saturated by now!
Well, may whatever decision you make be the right one that you will be happy with forever. It sounds like quite an adventure, so just enjoy the process, whichever direction it leads.
I think I have to do some googling after all. I was thinking more like within the same county, not across the country.
Good evening Keith, I am looking forward to your musical contribution this evening.
Jesse Andrews (Music of Scotland) likes Good King Wincaslas too. He just played it the second time, the first time with bagpipes.
Oh, these videos are tricky! I just went back to Keith"s Good King post and it is now playing Perry Como's Little Drummer Boy. I KNOW it was correct to start with. I suspect it is playing something recorded further along the same video, as many of them now have several continuous selections.
Little Donkey - Got to keep on plodding onwards with your precious load.
