Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 27 September 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's Chat thread is here.

This is a very special week because it begins with a rare astronomical phenomenon. On 27-28 September, most folks on this thread can enjoy several coinciding events:

  • A full moon. The moon will turn full at 3:51 a.m. in the U.K., 10:51 p.m. in the eastern U.S., and 7:51 p.m. in California.
  • The closest full moon of the year. Within an hour of becoming full, the moon reaches perigee and its closest approach to earth for the year of 2015.
  • A Harvest Moon. This is the moon closest to the autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere.
  • A total lunar eclipse!!!
  • This is the fourth and final eclipse of a lunar tetrad. A lunar tetrad is four consecutive total eclipses of the moon (with no partial lunar eclipses in between), each of which is separated from the other by six lunar months.

You can find complete info here and here.

Everyone have a wonderful week!

  • Good Morning, All.  Dry here again, and I've got lots in the w.machine so that I can get my clothes ready for packing to go away yet again.  Didn't bother to put the suitcase away this time, its on the spare bed ready to be filled up.

AQ:  So pleased that you managed to get away for some more "me" time.  It sounds as if you had a good break from things.  Love the Owl noises!!

  • Just been tootling with my photos again>  More pics from the Flower Show, starting with one which I missed from that garden we all liked:

The two above, two different views of another entry into the Young Designers class.

With this entry, I saw the designer interviewed on the TV, & he said that he wanted an alternative style, so had put the lawn up higher so that you could sit on it easier  LOL!!  It was nicely planted and restful, though.

  • Was sorely tempted to buy something from the Stainless Steel & Wooden Carved range, on offer here....

Isn't he gorgeous?  Too expensive for me, though!

    And arn't these pretty?

  • I'm back again, with a hot chocolate to hand and some pics of the Garden Hideaways Shed Competition:  each entrant was given a small plain shed and asked to interpret it themselves.  First, The Hungry Gardeners Shed, with things growing all over.....

At the back, they had put a built in BBQ to enjoy their produce!!

Then the mysterious Shed Which Wasn't There!  Look Twice!

Then the Nature Lovers version.....  think you'll all like this one!

Finally, the restful and imaginative..... don't think they could have packed more into it!

  • Margo has asked me to let you know that her haemoglobin has dropped further, which is obviously not good. She has been told that there is no further treatment that they can give her, when it is obvious that  the present treatment is no longer working. Other relevant treatments would not be suitable for her age / weakness and if she caught an infection, it could prove to be fatal.  They will be able to give her blood transfusions for a while. They will let her know if they find a suitable trial.

Obviously Margo is not happy as they did tell her that there would be further treatment after the present one stopped, but as always, she is trying to stay strong, with the support of her lovely husband. She is going to see Bryan Ferry this weekend. She sends her Best Wishes to you all.

  • Thanks, BRENDA - can't say "like", but glad you could share on behalf of MARGO.

MARGO - not good news, I know, but they can't give you treatments that will make you feel worse, so I hope the transfusions will help - and at least you aren't threatened with going into hospital for treatments.  I hope your OH will be able to work from home more often to be there with you.  Praying.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG, Margo did say that her OH will be arranging to work more from home. She would love him to be with her 24/7, but also doesn't want him to feel confined to the house until it becomes necessary.

  • Some thing to make you all smile.

  • Hello all

It is a beautiful day here and we have just been out for lunch. Found gift voucher that I/we had forgotten about which expires tomorrow. Whew!

Thank you BRENDA for updating us re MARGO. I wonder if she was given any sort of indication about when they will put her on to transfusions? I did wonder MARGO, about you having the heavy treatment in your seventies with it's immuno suppressant effects etc but it's not my field and I'm not a doctor. Lots of loving thoughts being sent from here xx

LINDY- thank you for the lovely photos and enjoy your week away.

OG - safe journey north and we will see you on Thursday.

    Take care, all

  • Heather, They haven't mentioned when any blood transfusions could start. As Margo said, they realised that they had thought of many questions when they returned home, but I think, in the circumstances, that is often the case. I do think that they will have made a list of questions before Margo's next appointment or maybe before then.
