Anyone can watch the partial solar eclipse here
U.K.: tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m.

California: tonight at 9:30 p.m.

  • AQ; Welcome back and so glad you had a wonderful weekend. Hope nanny duty day isn't too difficult.

Lindybird: If worse comes to the worst, there are some spiffy designer eye patches out there.  :-)

Heather: Sun is definitely on a southern slant here too. All we need now is cooler days...

Daughter has follow up appointment with doc tomorrow; she can't drive so I'll be doing the honors....

  • AQ: Welcome back. Hope you had a great time.

Heather: I hope you enjoy your visit with your Danish friends and the weather cooperates.

dibnlib: Welcome back to you, too. Lovely photo.

    Welcome back to Wendyb, too.

Brenda: Hope you've managed to befriend the cat for whom you're pet-sitting! Hope the scared little fella isn't a scratcher.

Lindy: I do hope that your eye will heal before the wedding this weekend. There's still some time.

Lynette: I hope your trigger thumb is continuing to improve.

And I also hope that George will receive good results on his scan and the computer problems are resolved.

Annette: Congrats on getting your new car all set up so you can make and receive phone calls with voice commands. My brother has that set-up, too. He still has to drive to Evansville frequently for his job, and he calls me once in a while to pass the time on his trips. I lose the connection, though, when he travels on some of the rural backwoods in the hills of southern Indiana. Your technology is probably much better in California.

    Everyone have a good Monday!

  • Good Morning, All.   Especially nice to hear a lot from Diane these days!

AQ:  Good to hear that you had a wonderful time away, but hope that the aches go away promptly - not too sure if they will, if its nanny duty day already.

dibnlib:  I forgot to say welcome back, but I did love your beautiful photo.  Good that you enjoyed yourselves.

Annette:  Hope the painters finish soon, and you can get back to normal.  It will be nice to have everything looking spruce:  did you find some new house numbers when you went on your search?  It reminded me that our number is often covered by an ivy we have growing up the side of the front door, it took over from a small pot some years ago and we let it climb up, but now its so vigorous we have to cut it back annually. I think I will get some new numbers made, probably some slate would be nice.

Brenda:  Its worrying when you pet sit and the creature is scared of you - not only can't you do a  reassuring cuddle, but it might go AWOL!! Hope all goes well.  I expect you'll give a sigh of relief when the owners return.

I must go and get dressed!  Been moping around and also watching my OH out of the window as he climbs up to cut lumps off our ever growing apple tree.  He is determined that it won't get so big that we have to pay someone to do it, but I'm not sure how many years he will be capable of climbing such a big ladder.  Bonnie is, of course, helping by bringing in three foot lengths of branch onto the dining room carpet..........

  • Good Morning Everyone. Rain all night and still pouring down. It is so dark at the moment. Gale warning for later today. Autumn has definitely arrived.

Thinking of George and his scan results.

Margo is very honest. I received an e-mail from her. She was coping with her chemo, but is tired and sleeping a lot. She has a lot to think about and is very grateful for your messages.

  • Linda, Neighbours are back home now. They have a new cat flap, which connects to the cat's ID micro chip. The cat will leave the house by the flap, but will not come back in, as it doesn't  like the click it hears as it approaches the flap. I had to open the kitchen door to let it into the house for it's food. It would insist on going into the garden, but wouldn't return later. It spent both nights outside, but not in the garden. I was in their garden calling it at 11pm, but it didn't return. I did see it, earlier in the evening, in a field, with the sheep !!!

So sorry about your eye problem. My OH had blepharitis some years ago, but it was confined to his eyelashes only. We were told to cleanse his lashes with cooled, boiled water and salt, and lint free pads.  You obviously have a bad dose of blepharitis.

  • Annette, You are obviously very happy with your painters and their work, so probably best to be patient at this stage and not having them rush the completion.
I do hope your daughters foot op is successful. I have heard that it is painful.

AQ, Nanny duty after a weekend of walking, climbing steps etc. You deserve a medal. LOL

Diane, I have Blue Tooth in my car, but I don't talk on the phone when driving so the screen keeps telling me that my phone is not in situ and my phone is usually ringing away in my handbag :-)))

  • Glad to hear the cat is OK, Brenda.  I know what a worry it can be, looking after someone else's pet.  I was told to bathe my eye and find it easiest to use warm water, and gentle rubbing with a cotton pad.   The skin around my eye is very sensitive - I can't use those creams which are supposed to make you look younger, as my eye sockets just puff up, giving a great look, LOL!!   So I fear that the cream my Doc has prescribed is doing much the same, putting back some of the moisture but also making them puff up a little. I've been using lots of Vaseline which seems to seal off the skin from getting too sore.  At least the drops are helping a lot, they are the kind without any preservative. They make both of my eyes feel much more "normal" and although its the left eye which is giving me problems, I still put drops in both of them some of the time.

Good to hear news of Margo - I'm sure she's had another tough week, and its hard for her to post, yet.  Still thinking of you daily, Margo.

  • p.s.  My OH has had to stop his pruning, as its started raining in earnest, now.  He will have an enforced rest before going back into battle with the trees, LOL!

  • My son and his wife have spent a few days in Bali. DiL sent me a text yesterday about Luwak coffee, which she tried. It is a coffee, which has been pre-digested by mongoose.......ie. It is picked out of their poo. A delicacy, apparently and retails for $$$ in the West. My son doesn't drink tea or coffee so didn't try it.

  • Ugh, Brenda - I heard about that stuff.... no way!

Off now to pc shop to enquire about my tablet problems, fingers crossed they can help.
