Weekly Chat (Non-Osprey), 30 August 2015

HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

Last week's chat thread is HERE.

I'm going to carry over Annette's links for the California Condor webcams (because I'm enjoying watching the funny looking fellas): Ventana Wildlife Society nest and feeding cams and Sespe Condor Sanctuary nest cam .

Also, Explore.org has a lot of interesting cams right now: underwater whales; sharks; the Grand Cayman reef; various underwater cams at Long Beach, California; grizzly, panda, and polar bears; puffins; a hummingbird nest; penguins; auroras; and various Africa cams. I like to watch some of them while meditating. Explore's Hawaii cams might be interesting over the next 2-3 days as Category 4 Hurricane Ignacio approaches from the east and tracks just north of the Hawaiian Islands, causing very high surf.

Everyone have a great week!

  • Thanks Heather. Just had to sign in again - I did yesterday! Annette: I bought it from a company I've used for years, they used to have brochures but now its all online, plus as you say, the useful addition of others comments. One lady had said that the copper option looked very smart, LOL! My OH has had a "telephone consultation" with his Doc about a blood test he had. She said that he had a touch of anaemia and it could be making him feel tired. He told me afterward that he has been tired lately but put it down to getting up so early for the dog, every day! EDIT: I don't know what to blame for my being unwell, it could have been the pie, or the sauce, or the cheesecake.....but I only began to feel like eating properly tonight. Never mind, I'll live! Eldest Son has just rung to say that he is coming North for a meeting on Friday morning. So he'll stay here Thursday night, then I'll start packing my suitcase on Friday morning to visit him & the family on Saturday!
  • I'm not surprised he came to that conclusion, LINDY!

I hope your tummy upset is getting better. It may have been the chicken in the pie. Who knows. I remember that you pick up tummy bugs very easily.

It remains cool here, this evening. Just 11 degrees. OH and I often go up to bed earlier once the nights get darker.  We have a fairly large screen TV in the bedroom. Cheaper (!) to be cosy in bed, especially in the winter months.  I don't watch much TV but read or listen to radio via earphones. OH has headphones which means I don't hear TV if I don't want to.

I love the bedroom, always have, since I was a child. There was never a problem getting me to bed. All I could think about was the book I would be reading !

Last Friday we went on a favourite walk above the cliffs and through the gorgeous heather, and we let her off the lead.  She bounded around, and all seemed well, until she came towards us with suspiciously more brown patches on her white coat than is usual.  As she came nearer, we both held our noses and gasped:  it was Truly Awful!   She had found, well, I hate to have to describe it, but there was no doubt - she had rolled over and over in Human Excrement.....   The path we use is a popular one with folks who walk the Welsh Coastal Path, and someone had hidden behind a rock to "go".

OMG!  Every time I read this I go EEEEEWWWWWWWW all over again.  The smell must have been indescribable.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Blimey, are we related?  I'd much rather read than have to listen to the TV, especially with what seems to pass for entertainment in recent times.

  • I’ve threatened to throw out the TV many times when I find nothing worthwhile to watch. Currently my highlight of the week is Foyle’s War – they’re repeating it from the beginning. I can’t bear the reality shows (cooking, building, etc). All too much drama & squabbling over trivia. I much prefer books. Desperate for more reading matter, I went early to the library, only to find myself at Toddler Time. I couldn’t concentrate on my choice with the wheels of the bus going round and stars twinkling. STOP! I wanted to get away from little people!!!!

OH’s nanny day. He gets a shortened day as Dau takes Miss3 + twins to PlayGroup in morning. I get the long days plus those with appts for Physio, Doc. I suggested I should have dropped a child eons ago and been relieved of duty LOL. I haven’t had any news, so I assume Dau hasn’t caught her OH’s flu. Apparently our state has different flu strains to what was in the flu vaccine.

Spring has disappeared. Yesterday cold & wet – 18 mm, the most rain for a month. But the spring bulbs are blooming amongst the weeds in the garden.

  • Evening all:

Lindybird: Oh well, so much for my idea about online shopping. I would have assumed "copper" would mean the frame; wouldn't occur to me the frame and seat would be different. No wonder your OH is tired! No chance you guys can modify Bonnie's routine - as in, lock Bonnie at the far end of the house?

Heather/Clare: I'm with you guys when it comes to books in bed. Soooo relaxing.  Ah, seems like AQ may be joining us!  :-)

AQ: Our library has toddler time too. Much noisier than storybook time.  I try to avoid both due to limited parking and the shriek factor.  They had the same issue with the flu vaccine here last year.  Hope Dau continues to stay healthy.

OH and I did a lot of cutting back and tying up of plants today.  It was Noisy Day, with trash, recycling and garden waste pick ups so we wanted to get as much green waste removed before we tackle the Cecile Brunner rose, which I swear grows a foot a day!

Hallo to everyone else. Have a good Thursday (already!).

  • Good Morning, All. Dry looking here: my OH has gone to golf hoping for a dry round. I'm off with Friend for a coffee break somewhere - she is going to pick me up & we are going together for our blood tests together at the local clinic! Then we can go off somewhere. Annette: She is already installed in her crate in the conservatory, where we have to go through dining room, hall & up the stairs to reach bedroom. OH sleeps with one ear open anyway!!
  • Well it's aged parent handover day...

My girls meet halfway and I will be passed over:-)

Youngest off to The Great Doeset Steam Fair to watch the "Wurzels" tonight. Oh dear where did I go wrong in her upbringing.

Saw my chosen statue in Kimmeridge Bay and off to see the Banksy Dismaland on Sunday. Art is for talking about and I am sure this will provoke many a discussion. Tickets are rare as hens teeth.

As for books my nearest library is a 100 mile round trip although there is a mobile one which I feel sure I would always miss as doing other things so I have resorted to my Kindle:-)

  • Hope you get handed over safely, Wendy!!  LOL!

I used to go quite often to our library, which is luckily within walking distance. However, I abandoned it when I realised that the house was groaning with various books I had not read yet, and decided to try & work my way through them.  I used to read in bed regularly but this seems to have gone by the by, perhaps since we had a TV put in the bedroom and we often watch the latest News together before turning out the lights - not always a good idea as the news these days is sooo depressing!  Have a Kindle to take on my holidays with me, but it doesn't get much use at home as I'm always trying to catch up on local news in papers & publications etc.

  • Limpy would love to have a TV in our bedroom but thankfully that's the one TV-free room in our house.  Helen seems to permanently use her phone as a TV and wherever she is, it is - and it's always on!  What an absolute nightmare.  I'd happily have no TV in the house at all even if that did mean missing Springwatch.
