HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!
Last week's chat thread is HERE.
I'm going to carry over Annette's links for the California Condor webcams (because I'm enjoying watching the funny looking fellas): Ventana Wildlife Society nest and feeding cams and Sespe Condor Sanctuary nest cam .
Also, Explore.org has a lot of interesting cams right now: underwater whales; sharks; the Grand Cayman reef; various underwater cams at Long Beach, California; grizzly, panda, and polar bears; puffins; a hummingbird nest; penguins; auroras; and various Africa cams. I like to watch some of them while meditating. Explore's Hawaii cams might be interesting over the next 2-3 days as Category 4 Hurricane Ignacio approaches from the east and tracks just north of the Hawaiian Islands, causing very high surf.
Everyone have a great week!
Heather: The big Marriott Hotel on Marco Island has beach webcams here, so you can see what the weather is like. The first one isn't working (it's a sea bird rookery) so scroll down to the beach cams. Marco Island is part of the Naples metropolitan area.
I don't think you need to worry about your family. The remnants of Erika are rapidly moving out of South Florida. According to Weather.com, the last of it should pretty much be gone by 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. today their time. Even if there are no major weather fronts, though, they will still have brief storms/rains in the evenings every day. That's normal for South Florida's tropical climate during the rainy season: very hot, humid, and sunny/partly cloudy during the day and then brief rains during the evening that pass over quickly. But your family won't be in any danger. Most people are glad for the brief break in the tropical heat.
You can see hourly weather predictions and a Naples animated weather map here. Click on "Hourly" or "Maps".I doubt that she was exaggerating about the Erika-related thunderstorm. :-))) I've been through storms like that in Florida and here (tropical fronts from the Gulf create our super-cell thunderstorms).
DIANE - Looks like they will be sheltering in the villa :-( I am waiting for the next update to the FB group..
ANNETTE - You may be right about cheap construction !!
Staying in Weymouth for a few days and doing walk to restaurants with youngest. Such a treat as I live too far from any of that.
Off to Kimmerage to see an Anthony Gormly statue which is there but for only a year.
Also one on Lundy and will see that in March.
Will only do Bath shops Heather but still a treat after Elgin and Inverness.
Can quite understand that, Wendy !
Heather: The Fifth Avenue webcam in downtown Naples is showing sunshine now. I left you a post above. Our posts crossed.
Thank you DIANE. We in UK just don't get severe weather very often so it is hard to imagine. They did say that in the two weeks in Orlando area, there was a rainstorm each evening. Thank you for the link. I will be checking....
Heather: Where my granddaughter lives in Arizona, they have a "monsoon" season each summer - usually starts right about July 4 - when afternoon thunderstorms of the very loud with dazzling lightning displays-type are the norm. Quite dramatic. Nothing like that in our neck of the woods.
Diane: You are a font of webcam information.
DIANE,- I have looked at all your links, thank you. The beach cam had a lot of raindrops on it! I await the next FB message...
why oh why is it that when you do a long post it refuses to post

Annette: Sometimes I get nostalgic about the time I spent on the Gulf coast. Then I remember that I was there with my (now ex) husband. All my sentimentality vanishes. LOL LOL!
