HAPPY NEW WEEK!

Last week's chat thread is here.

Hi, all. I just thought I'd start the new thread since Annette has been busy with family/friends and is probably tired.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Not long before autumn now.

  • Good Morning - just had to sign in, after my remarks yesterday about not needing to, often. That shows me! Also lost a post last night so will have to read back to try & remember what it was about. Great pic of Great Spotted Woodpecker, Clare!!
  • Thought you might be feeling lonely, LINDY!

Miserable weather here, today. No gardening happening. Just had family visitors in for a couple of hours.

Wait for it! We have just put the heating on:-(

    Hope everyone is OK.

  • Lindybird: Thanks for ID'ing Clare's bird.

Heather: We are cooler here today but as everyone says, September and October, which can be very hot dry months, are just ahead...

To all readers: Just finished the excellent Journey to Infinity by Jane Hawking so zoomed off to library in a panic to pick up A.McCall Smith's new Isabel Dalhousie book The Novel Habits of Happiness, then spotted Deep Down Dark, the story of the Chilean mine disaster that trapped 33 men for 60 days. I've heard the author, Héctor Tobar, interviewed several times and the first few pages are setting the scene very well. Looks quite compelling.

I'm off to meet daughter at halfway point for breakfast this morning; back later!

  • Is there a maths genius online? Granddaughter Mia age 10 ,homework question 'what number is ten times more than 12?'  OH and I think it is 120. Mia thinks it might be a trick question. If it is then it sounds more like a Mensa question LOL

  • Well, my cousin's daughter,a primary school teacher, has agreed that it is 120. Her reputation is on the line..

  • Definitely 120.  They wouldn't ask a Mensa question of a 10-year-old.  Curious way to word the question, though - not exactly calculated to make the kids confident about their answers.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Heather - Even I, a maths phobic, can see that to "times ten" you can add a zero to your figure :-) As I've not had time to come online until now, you can see that I've not been lonely today! Far from it - we've had a busy & tiring time :-(
  • Went for a Docs appointment this morning, re my blood pressure, and he is convinced that it is higher than he would like. He's put me on a bp pill, and is going to monitor the effects. He did say that otherwise, I'm in good order for my age, apart from being a tiny bit high on the cholesterol reading, which we can easily sort with a tweak to my diet ( I admitted that I eat way too much cheese, LOL!!)
  • Late morning, we set off to go to my OHs appointment for a 6 month review after his scare last year. On the way, we stopped off & bought exciting socks & underwear from M&S, then went on to John Lewis for a nice Tuna baguette for early lunch. We arrived at The Christie Hospital a good 20 minutes early for the appointment, then my OH was sent off for a blood test. Whilst he was gone, I glanced at his appointment letter - we were a whole hour early! - he had got the time wrong. To add to this, after we had waited a while a nurse came out and announced with apologies that everyone was running over 40 minutes late....... To cut a long & tiring story short, eventually he was called in, a whole hour & ten minutes after his original appointment. We were only in there for 4 minutes. By the time he had queued up for another 6 months appointment and we had driven home, it was after 4.30 in the afternoon. Poor Bonnie had been locked up since 10.30am! She was fine, but very pleased to see us, and my OH was told that he is doing OK, thank goodness.
