WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2015

Hallo all:  Happy New week.

Well, what can I say? I can't even do stupid links these days; no idea why things aren't linking but life is too short to fret about it....

Rita is doing her knee exercises, which aren't the best part of her day, but she'll get there we know.

OG: I've taken the liberty of copy/pasting your anniversary dinner menu for all to enjoy vicariously:  "Had a great meal at a country house hotel not far away.  Even the bread rolls were wonderful - fresh-baked and therefore really crisp, not hard (I can't usually eat what are normally referred to as "crisp" rolls!).  OH started with soup while I had a terrine of roasted vegetables; we both had beautifully roasted pork loin, with a theme of peas running through it: pea mash, pea puree and mange touts, as well as roasted root veg and garnished with a wee "haggis bon-bon" (breaded haggis).  OH decided in sticky toffee pud to follow - pleased I didn't as it had a fig in the middle which I would not have liked to find in there!  I had the most wonderful chocolate fudge cake ever - so beautifully light, whereas I usually find it very heavy.  J is out at a barbecue this evening so it was nice to have a meal out on our own but without leaving him out."   All sounds yummy (though not sure about the breaded haggis).

Brenda: I too am wondering how many floors up your son and DiL are in their new apartment.  Have you started looking at airfares yet?  OG has info on the Canada cake on last week's thread.

bjane: Hope you're too busy to post for all the right reasons.  Take care; good to see you.

Margo: Hope you feel up to dropping in this week.  Is your sister still popping by?  Hugs to you.

Earth to Diane!  Please call home.    :-))

Fountain is behaving itself as I type; it usually goes about three days before pooping out. Am prepared for investigative antics next time.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • Hey Diane, hope you manage to install successfully and you are back with us.  I too am thinking of upgrading my pc as I am using my OH's old one which operates windows xp and of course is now unsupported.

I have found several ones on Ebay and just have to make a descision and hope for the best.

Annette, hope all is well with you and yours.  Not been on for a few days so am catching up with everyones news.

Clare , glad Helen did well in her riding.

Rita, HeatherB, AQ, thanks for your news too.

  • Brenda - hope you are both feeling a lot better soon.

Lindybird - nice to read your news as all the others too.  Sorry to hear that Margo is poorly.   Thoughts and prayers are with her.

  • Margo - all our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time - just you focus on those shows you have booked.

  • Not much news except our son took his OH over to Dublin for their anniversary which was yesterday.

Weather here has been blowy, cloudy, with sunny intervals and not too cold.  Off to the gym again tomorrow.

  • Hi, all.

Finished mowing the entire land! Phew. I keep forgetting that I'm not as young as I used to be. Please send me that self-driving lawn tractor, Lindy. LOL Saw my first woolly worm (Isabella Tiger Moth caterpillar) of the season, and I did not like the look of him at all. The colors in his coat predicted another very harsh winter here. Nooo! Just no. No.

I forgot to tell you all that RT Hawk's pale mate has been staying close to the house this summer. I saw her hunting in the backyard close to the kitchen window yesterday. She flies over me when I mow. Maybe she thinks I'll flush out a field mouse for her.

Lynette: Yup, I had to buy a new desktop and then upgrade it to Windows 10, but it all went well. I hope you find the perfect computer for the right price! Good luck to you.

Brenda: I hope you are feeling better now. I would not enjoy large grasshoppers indoors. When I was a child, my brother used to chase me with them and let them spit brown juice on me. They aren't my favorite of Earth's creatures. :-) Careful of those hornets. Thanks for your kind concern about me while I was absent. Hope Penny will settle in okay in Singapore once the festivities are over, and I hope you're aren't suffering too much since your family's move. I know you miss them.

Lindy: Your late father sounds like a fascinating man. So lovely that you still have his calculator. So very sorry you have to undergo the testing for high BP. Hope that and the cholesterol test have good results for you.

Heather: I so hope you enjoy the movie!!! Where is your son and family going in Florida? Many years ago, when I was married, I used to spend a lot of time in Venice, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Sorry your middle daughter can't go on holiday. I hope she will find other ways to find joy before winter. Best wishes to Amy. I probably would get along well with your OH; most of my blood is Scot (with some Irish thrown in).

OG: Are you going to fly here and clean my garage now? Oh, and also my barn? LOL I was sorry to read that you have hearing issues. You'll have to give me the details.

    Clare: Congratulations to Helen!

Rita: I was so sorry to read that you've been in so much pain. I'm glad you're improving, but I know that it's been a rough road. It was very nice of your family to help you. I hope you'll be comfortable taking care of yourself by the time they leave. Well done on trying to do all the exercises. It must have been so good to see your garden again. Hope the tortoises travelled okay. Sending you healing energy.

George: I'm sorry that you've had to wait so long for scan results. I hope you enjoy your lovely new computer. Best to you.

AQ: I hope your OH gets his Windows 10 soon. When I can get my thoughts together, I'll post some tips that would have helped me when I did the upgrade -- for your OH, Annette, George, and OG/Eagle-Eye. I found Day 9 of your Victoria trip to be fascinating. I would have enjoyed that very much. I loved the rock art, and I loved your photos of the Murtoa lizards. (The Quamby Homestead stained glass was very pretty on your Flickr site.)

  • Margo: Stay strong and look forward to your plans and shows. My thoughts are with you every day.

Annette: I hope you've had a lovely time with your visiting family. I read that you were suffering from a bug, too. I hope you're okay now. How very strange to have a Towhee in the house! Probably has some symbolic meaning, but darned if I know what.

I would so like to see your Plumeria. It's one of my 3 favorite flowers, along with Cockscomb and wild Violets.

I've been worried about you, reading about all of the fires burning in California and the new water restrictions kicking in for the state. I hope that you will keep safe. We're due for more rain/storms tomorrow, so I'll do my best to send it all to you.

As it turns out, I can't watch the debate tomorrow night. The only legal way to watch is on cable TV or to use cable TV subscription account info to watch online. So much for democracy in America!!! Cable TV isn't even available out here in my rural area! Not a single cable provider here at all. I could watch it if I had satellite TV with sufficient tiers, but that's too expensive here for me. Probably just raise my blood pressure, anyway. But really, is this any way to run a country?

Take care and don't get sick again.

  • Phew! I wrote a lot, catching up with everyone. Sorry, all.

  • Hallo all:  Completely knackered after busy day with family - haven't built sandcastles or dug moats for decades. Everyone tired but happy when I waved them bye-bye on the train back to daughter's house.  Plan to Do Nothing tomorrow other than putter, so will catch up with everyone in the morning over coffee.

  • Good Morning, All.  Dashing around with a towel on my head, trying to get ready to go out early: Friend and I are off to Bent's again, its the  v e r y   big Garden Centre in Lancashire we like to visit once in a while. Just paid the milkman and he looked surprised that I was wearing the towel - sometimes I think he believes I live just behind the front door, waiting to pay his bill, and never do anything so mundane as have a shower LOL!!

Diane:  Nice to get a long post from you.  Well done on getting all the land mowed in one big effort.  It sounds like too much to do....    I'm not too worried about my BP, as I say, it often goes up when I get tested - I'm really just annoyed that I will have to wear the test thingy. I told the nurse twice that my levels go up, but she seemed unimpressed.  My father was a well read and clever man - he was an Engineer and loved his job. It tickles me that my Youngest now earns his living in the same way.

Brenda:  Thanks for news of Margo, its nice to think that she can talk to you on the phone.  I have never suggested that she phone me, as I feel that too many of us fussing will make it harder for her rather than be of help. My thoughts are with her daily.

Annette:  What a good idea, to have a Plan to Do Nothing Day - it will do you good after all the excitement of castle building. I read back and see that you are still having intermittent problems with your fountain.  I do hate it when inanimate objects (are fountains inanimate, though?  Hmmmnnn...) seem to take pleasure in being unreliable.

Off to get breakfast and cuddle Bonnie - she was unwell in the night and my OH got up and dealt with her, she seems OK now so it must have been, once again, something she ate <sigh>

    Have a Good Day, Everyone!

  • A "quieter" day today;  OH is doing museum duty in the morning instead of afternoon, to cover kids' activities (smugglers!).

My Windows 10 has downloaded this morning, so I have scheduled it to install this afternoon - decided I should be adventurous and get it done before we are away next week, but decided on afternoon so OH will be here if it asks me any awkward questions (Microsoft seem to ask their questions backwards or sideways so I can never work out whether I want to say "yes" or "no" - and there isn't an option for "I don't know, I am only the user"!

Have I said we are having another short break?  Just Sunday to Thursday - must have said it because I can remember a couple of your comments!  Rutland Water Ospreys here we come - on Monday.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
