WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2015

Hallo all:  Happy New week.

Well, what can I say? I can't even do stupid links these days; no idea why things aren't linking but life is too short to fret about it....

Rita is doing her knee exercises, which aren't the best part of her day, but she'll get there we know.

OG: I've taken the liberty of copy/pasting your anniversary dinner menu for all to enjoy vicariously:  "Had a great meal at a country house hotel not far away.  Even the bread rolls were wonderful - fresh-baked and therefore really crisp, not hard (I can't usually eat what are normally referred to as "crisp" rolls!).  OH started with soup while I had a terrine of roasted vegetables; we both had beautifully roasted pork loin, with a theme of peas running through it: pea mash, pea puree and mange touts, as well as roasted root veg and garnished with a wee "haggis bon-bon" (breaded haggis).  OH decided in sticky toffee pud to follow - pleased I didn't as it had a fig in the middle which I would not have liked to find in there!  I had the most wonderful chocolate fudge cake ever - so beautifully light, whereas I usually find it very heavy.  J is out at a barbecue this evening so it was nice to have a meal out on our own but without leaving him out."   All sounds yummy (though not sure about the breaded haggis).

Brenda: I too am wondering how many floors up your son and DiL are in their new apartment.  Have you started looking at airfares yet?  OG has info on the Canada cake on last week's thread.

bjane: Hope you're too busy to post for all the right reasons.  Take care; good to see you.

Margo: Hope you feel up to dropping in this week.  Is your sister still popping by?  Hugs to you.

Earth to Diane!  Please call home.    :-))

Fountain is behaving itself as I type; it usually goes about three days before pooping out. Am prepared for investigative antics next time.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • Doing all the mundane things this morning, and then getting dressed in something decent as we are off to lunch at a relative's house. There will also be other relatives there and some good friends of all of us, so am looking forward to a good gossip.

Hope the weather picks up for everyone in UK.   Also that it cools down a little for Annette!

  • ANNETTE - I heard again about the wildfires and evacuations of homes north of SF. Four consecutive years of drought in California and

here I am, moaning about rain. As I've said here before, we in the UK with our temperate climate don't really have much to complain about. I feel quite embarrassed when I think about it.

(As a weather obsessed Brit though, I have to mention that the ferry that eldest daughter is booked on today has been diverted due to high winds in the West).

BRENDA- Thanks for forwarding MARGO's message.

    Good morning everyone!

  • Enjoy your lunch, LINDY! The garden will still be there when you get back. My OH has been pruning and there is a lot of sweeping up to be done in the back garden, but not today. He has donned his blazer and slacks and is on a day out with the Probus Club. A tour of Fort George and then lunch at Culloden House hotel. These old boys know how to be good to themselves,I hope they have a great male bonding day....

  • Good Morning Everyone. Sunny intervals her, but it is windy. Forecast temperature is 19c but will feel like 14c.

Heather, I do think you have the right to complain about all the rain you have been getting this summer. Pleased to see that your OH is not letting the rain stop him going out. You should have a lazy day now LOL

Annette, Sods law that the AC would have broken down at your yoga class. It doesn't seem fair that the rain is passing you by and you are now getting very hot weather.

Linda, Have a good gossip and enjoy your lunch. As Heather says, the garden won't be going anywhere, just another day's growth to be pruned :-))

We are both recovering from our 'bug'. It does seem to have left us very tired though. I should be hoovering, but I can't build up any enthusiasm. It can probably wait another day. LOL

  • Going out for lunch with middle daughter, BRENDA, must get going. Take care of yourselves. When I don't want to see bits on the carpet I just take my specs off. That only works if you need glasses, though LOL

  • Just had a very heavy, squally shower, as I was paying the window cleaner. It always happens when he comes !!!

The fires North of San Francisco look horrendous.

  • Hi, everyone.

I posted this on my Facebook page, and I thought you all might get a laugh out of my silliness. It's a true story. LOL

    --------

So I went to the gas (petrol) station near Walmart, and I wasn't in a good mood (due to my computer's demise). I picked up the gas pump hose and opened the little door to remove my gas cap. Nine huge red wasps were sitting on a nest directly on the cap. They were all lined up and staring at me warily. I'm a little scared of wasps. Okay, fine, wasps make me pee with fear. But I was surrounded by several big prairie men filling up their pick-up trucks, and I wasn't about to show weakness and throw a screaming fit in front of them. Besides, I'd already paid for the gas, and I wasn't walking away.

I didn't want to hurt the wasps or get stung myself. So I started waving the gas nozzle at the wasps, so they'd get a little whiff of the gasoline and leave, and it was working! One by one they were zooming off the nest and flying away -- unharmed.

Then I looked up to see the men lined up staring at me with raised eyebrows as I danced around and waved the gas nozzle in the air. I tried to explain about the red wasp nest, but they were men of few words like most of the farmers here, and they all just said, "Hmm".

    LOL LOL LOL

(I checked the nest, and it didn't have any babies yet. If it had, I was going to place it near another nest on my patch -- sort of a wasp translocation/hacking project. LOL!)

  • DIANE - you and my OH would get on very well!

  • Sorry to hear you've both had a bug, Brenda.  Its not pleasant to get them at this time of year.

We've only been home for a couple of hours, from our lunch date!!  The lady of the house is famous for not looking at clocks, so although we arrived at 1.00pm, we sat down to eat at probably somewhere between 2.45pm and 3.00!  But thoroughly enjoyed the company, as we all know each other quite well, and had lots of holidays and child news to catch up on.

On arrival we had a glass of Prosecco with some strawberry liquer in it, very pleasant.  Then when we sat down, we had home made soup which was made from sweet potato with a dash of red pepper.  Then we had a lovely dinner of ham with new potatoes and salad.  Following that we had a choice of strawberry & blueberry Pavlova, or a strudel made with crispy filo pastry, containing rhubarb and strawberries.  Of course, most of us opted for a piece of each!  Then we reminisced over coffee, cheese & biscuits.

Bonnie came with us in the car and was allowed out twice, once for a short walk and once for a bound around the garden with their Collie dog.

EDIT:  of course, she was much admired!  And she was pleased to see my OH's sister again.
