WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JULY 19, 2015

Happy New Week all:

Rumbles of thunder all day, but it seems to be passing just east of us. Apparently our share arrives tomorrow evening.

I seem to have lost the Rich Text formatting option - and the text has gone weird.

OG: Apparently Aldi is going to open some stores in California. Your lunch at the Old Toll House sounds wonderful.

HEATHER: Here's a very long link to a film of passengers arriving g to board the Lusitania on its last voyage. Extremely clear images for the times. www.criticalpast.com/video/65675040085_SS-Lusitania_passengers-arrive-at-dock_passengers-aboard-SS-Lusitania_author-Elbert-Hubert

LINDYBIRD: My hammock, which as a large metal frame, is stored in the garage in favor of my zero-gravity folding chair, which is so much easier to put up and then away.

LYNETTE: Home delivered groceries sounds wonderful, except I buy from three separate stores and like to see/feel the veggies/fruit.

OG/Alan:  Just looked at the "protest" images on the BBC Scotland website and had to smile at one sign that read: Down With This Sort of Thing.  :-))  So polite and so versatile!

    LOL!!
  • Good Morning, All. We had some rain yesterday evening, not as much as those living in the South of UK but welcome nevertheless, for the garden. Today is drier but then tomorrow is predicted wet everywhere. Must go out to forage for food today as the fridge is empty, then tomorrow may stay indoors and attack the photograph pile again!
  • AQ - we will go out & get two large dogs, if it works to subdue our spaniel, LOL!!!
  • Good Morning Everyone. So pleased to see the rain has stopped this morning. Besides the very heavy rain all day and night, we had thunderstorms too. I have noticed the last few years that when the school holidays start, here, the rain moves in. Our garden will appreciate the rain though, but I don't think we need so much in one day. As Linda says, rain again tomorrow for the majority of us.

Linda,  Looking forward to your Tatton Park photographs. It is a very big area to walk around, so I am not surprised that you get tired, but obviously worth it. I am looking for new ideas for our garden.
Give Bonnie a hug from me.

OG, Just seen this year's Wickerman figure for the festival in D&G. It looks fantastic. Just been reading up about the event.

AQ,  Tea with sis-i-l sounds good. I guess your temperatures must be higher, if you expect rain. You do seem to have had some cold temps.

Food Banks have been around for many years. There have always been folk, who need our help. The main point is that we actually contribute some food to the Banks.

  • Good morning all

Fingers crossed for the weather today, it is granddaughter Katie's 13th birthday and there is a barbecue planned. A risky thing to do, methinks... I offered our house as a wet weather alternative since it has the covered outdoor area but Lucy is adamant that it won't be necessary. Maybe she is reading a different weather map than I am.

So happy to read about CLARE's great day at Minsmere.

I know that there are other replies that I want to make but they have gone walkabout in my brain and I don't have time right now to try to find them.

    Have a good day, everyone

  • Hope the weather stays fine for Katie's Birthday BBQ, Heather and you all have a great time.

  • Hi! Another little summer here yesterday and today, and no rain expected till Sunday teatime. OH had to get the hosepipe out for the garden last evening. J and friends’ beach barbecue Thursday evening turned into a pub meal because they took so long arriving and getting organised that it was too late to cook their own; but five of them did have a good time. Yesterday we were doing HW and preparing for the Granddaughters’ arrival. We enjoyed dinner with them – both have such healthy appetites at last – and chatting with them all evening – even the 15 year old has come through the silent stage! J arrived home from band practice, so we ended up having quite a late night, but they got up on time to carry on to camp this morning. While they are there, Dau#1 and her OH are off to Paris for a few days – travelling via the tunnel, which doesn’t sound much fun these days! We are “on call” in loco parentis if the girls have problems, but since the elder one is nearly 22 now, we are unlikely to be called on. OH is mowing again this afternoon, and I am recovering from the visitors!

Bjane – good to see posts from you. I do intend to wear the hearing aids most of the time.

Brenda – flower delivery by yellow digger sounds delightful – and unique! Enjoy the weekend celebration. We don’t really follow the Wickerman Festival, and I haven’t even seen what the figure is this year - no doubt it will be featured in D&G Life magazine!

AQ – I am also going for a repeat of anti-inflammatories this week – like you, I take them when I need them, which apparently reduces possible risks.

Clare – pleased you enjoyed reception at Minsmere, and well done giving directions to Dunwich; how much of it is still remaining? I think there were just a few walls of the most inland church remaining when we were last there; it’s amazing when you think what an important place it was in mediaeval times!

Linda - I hope you were not too exhausted after RHS Tatton Show; it sounds as if you had a great time, and made some good purchases; I see our local council won silver for their exhibit representing John Paul Jones’ Cottage, a local tourist attraction.

Annette – no mix-up of hearing test results – our names were at the top of each, and I saw the shape of my graphs before OH started his! The MP Alan referred to is MP for our constituency, and also Minister for Scotland, representing Scottish affairs at Westminster. The constituency covers a huge area of SW Scotland, but he works very hard for all his constituents, and on this occasion was in Dumfries.

Heather – I hope it will be dry for your Granddaughter’s birthday barbecue, although I did notice it looks wet at LG.

Time to do something with teatime pizza, I guess! Tomorrow will be a “normal” Sunday, with the addition of another cream tea!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - I was going to tell you that we did indeed see the Dumfries & Galloway exhibit, and that they had won a Silver!  I have a couple of pics of it to show you, but it will have to wait until I can load them up on here.

    Off to cook dinner.....

  • We have had to cancel our plans for today. OH seems to have a bug. He is coughing a lot, feeling lethargic and is feeling woozy on occasions, so we will wait until he is feeling 100% again. He has has bad hay fever recently, so it could be connected.

OG, I saw the festival figure on the BBC news this morning. Seemed a pity  that they will set fire to it. Well done to D&G winning the silver medal.

I do hope your daughter gets to Paris asap, but pictures on local news look very bad. Besides ' operation stack' for haulage transport, immigrants have entered the tunnel again and are causing further delays.
