WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JULY 12, 2015

Hallo all:

OG: Love the photo of the two ducks (not sure which kind). But which of you got down on the ground to get that shot?  The details on the drake are really striking.

Heather: I remember Circassian Circles - but only the name!  What a wonderful time you had, sounds like so much fun.

Rita: Congratulations on your knee.  Good for you.  Seems like a lots of folks on here will be happy to cheer you along in rehab.  :-)  Do you have one of those walkers? (I think they call them Zimmer frames over there).

I'll be up at 6 a.m. to watch Federer/Djokovich game.

Here's to a good week for everyone and hope Margo is doing okay.

  • Lovely to hear from you, Margo.   I'm sorry that you are having such a rotten time.  Do hope that the additional worry of the growth/mole behind your ear doesn't cause extra anxiety

How lovely that your OH was able to treat his Mother to such a nice day out.  She sounds as if she does very well for her age.

I certainly will be glad when they finally finish the house next door:  my OH says he wouldn't be surprised if it took until this Autumn before they put it on the market at last. Then we may have to wait until its finally sold, to see what kind of close neighbours we are going to have.  Let's hope they like dogs!  Bonnie was barking wildly when I came back from the shops the other day, because my OH was mowing the lawn, which makes her very excited.  Must add, she doesnt bark much else though.  No, she didn't eat the collar as its made of nylon but she has a fondness for many other things, and we are having to be very careful indeed as to what we leave lying around.  Yesterday she dragged into the house quite a large dead branch off a bush and ate it on the carpet!  Today she ate some plastic ties from the plants, and brought in a piece of our fence which she had ripped from the bottom where it was slightly rotten!  She has now dug four separate holes in my flowerbeds but I leave her to do that as at least I know where they are and she is not digging up other plants.

  • Pleased to see your post, Margo. Good to see that your OH still plans to take his holiday next week. I thought you would plan to visit your friend. She will be so glad to see you. Sorry your bruising is even worse and more painful now. We will speak soon. Take care. X

  • Brenda:   Ouch!  you must be more careful with the neighbours pup.  They do have very sharp claws.  I hate dogs who jump up at your legs, and draw blood on your foreleg if you arn't wearing trousers.

Your problems with the next door development sounds much worse than ours - at least ours is only one house.  You are quite right to demand less inconvenience from the builders, if you can only anticipate what they might do.  We were not too concerned about ours as after all, our existing neighbours had had to put up with our builders when we planned to move into our house, and did a loft conversion and extension.  But at least that only took a few weeks to finish.  But this seems to be going on forever and as we are all squeezed into a corner here, the house next door is very close and their driveway is just a gateway jammed into that corner, leaving very little room for any vehicles to park in the road without inconveniencing the residents.  Never mind, rant over.

Do hope yours is not too bad in the execution and that you can manage to keep the number of houses proposed, to a minimum.

  • Hello all

The weather can't make up its mind today, but at least it is dry. Last night temps were down to 2 or 3 degrees in some glens.

I'm going out for lunch shortly, meeting up with eldest and middle daughters and their daughters, a real girls' lunch.I hope that we fare better than you, AQ, it is so disappointing when you don't eat out a lot and then it disappoints.

WENDY- nice to see you and pleased that you are enjoying your holiday.

MARGO- nice to see you,too but sorry that you seem to be suffering after effects from chemo to a greater degree than previously. Is the skin thing a recognised side effect? Your mother in law is like my OH, unstoppable! However he is feeling his age and limitations more this year. He just won't pace himself and then wonders why he gets so tired!

BRENDA/LINDY- I empathise! Twice in my life have bought a house on a development that wasn't finished. The only difference is that I knew what it would be like. When you are used to relative peace and quiet the noise and upheaval must come as a shock:-(

PS MARGO, I just looked up about the skin peeling. Apparently it can either be due to photosensitivity or certain chemo drugs. Not my field, I'm sure that you will put me right xx
  • Linda, 2 houses and 2 bungalows have been approved for next door, which we expected.  Pity being that one of the houses will be near our side fence and stand proud of our house to the front, which will reduce the sunlight from the front of our house !! We have succeeded in having the development  entrance moved to the top of our Close, which we are very happy about, and causes the developer more headaches. It would also mean that we will retain the bush / flower borders, which border our road. It has been a long and expensive fight, but the result proves it has been worth it. We just don't look forward to the noise now. As it is a private road and only our four houses are liable for any road repairs, we still have some legal issues to have confirmed, that the people who buy the new houses will now also be liable for repairs to the part of the road used by them. The builder will also have to repair any damage caused by his heavy vehicles. We have been told to photograph the surface before anything starts. At this moment I feel I would love to sell up and move. LOL

  • Understand what you are saying BRENDA , assume that you are between a rock and a hard place regarding selling up and value of your house. A very difficult decision to make.

  • Only just seen your last post, Brenda - I expect you love your house & garden and would rather not contemplate moving. But I did think about it for a fleeting moment here, one day last week! So I know how you feel.....
  • Heather, I haven't even mentioned my thoughts to my OH. It was as I was writing what we still had to do that I thought, s-d it, we could just sell up and move. LOL In reality though, who would want to buy a house, where all the noise and work will be taking place or due to commence,

  • Linda, We do like living here and have formed friendships. The only thing I moan about is the poor public transport, if neither of us were ever unable to drive.

  • We have thunder and big spots of rain starting here.
