WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY JULY 12, 2015

Hallo all:

OG: Love the photo of the two ducks (not sure which kind). But which of you got down on the ground to get that shot?  The details on the drake are really striking.

Heather: I remember Circassian Circles - but only the name!  What a wonderful time you had, sounds like so much fun.

Rita: Congratulations on your knee.  Good for you.  Seems like a lots of folks on here will be happy to cheer you along in rehab.  :-)  Do you have one of those walkers? (I think they call them Zimmer frames over there).

I'll be up at 6 a.m. to watch Federer/Djokovich game.

Here's to a good week for everyone and hope Margo is doing okay.

  • Oh darn!! I was rooting for Roger - he's such a good player and such a nice understated guy. Oh well.  :-((

  • Lindybird: Dogs aren't the only creatures who can't adjust to the "outside" life once they've been institutionalized. Sounds like this one is in good hands though.

  • Ditto, Annette. I was hoping Roger Federer would win.

  • Hello All -  thank you so much everybody who has sent me good wishes and advice, it does help.  Still cannot eat much but my family are looking after me very well, I do  not know what I would have done without them.

OG - Thank you for the lovely pictures of the Iris my favourite colour. I also loved your duck photos.   I also cannot take Lilies anywhere near me, I start wheezing straight away, all my family know this now and do not send lilies.

Lynette - thank you for your encouraging remarks about my knee, it does help me as I feel I am making such slow progress with movement in the knee at the moment.

Annette  - I did use a frame at first but now I have crutches, The hospital made me go up and downstairs on crutches before they would let me home.  I do not find it difficult going upstairs with crutches at all, as long as the dogs are well out of the way!  it is getting up and down out of a chair that I find so excruciatingly painful!

Heather- You sound as though you had a really good time at the Wedding, a real Scottish Wedding! we used to go to lots when we were young and really enjoyed doing all those dances but what is a Circassian Circle? I do not remember anything about that.     And how lovely to have a Pipe Band concert.  some people do not like the Pipes but I do very much. When we lived in Dingwall the Pipe Band used to play on Saturday evenings in the summer for the tourists and we used to watch from our sitting room window.   Our Dalmation dog hated the sound and started howling the moment she heard them coming up the High Street!

Clare- sorry to read that Helen has had a rough time and glad that she is getting better now.   never heard of that syndrome, sounds very nasty.

Brenda-I was sorry to read about your daughters experience with the greyhound, very upsetting for her and it was the right thing to do to send it back.  It  must have had a bad experience somewhere along the line.      I adopted a greyhound /whippet cross from a rescue centre and never had a moments trouble, she was loving and gentle always. I had her for years and she was good with all my family and other dogs as well.

I was, too! Shame he failed this time, but it was a good match to watch.
  • RITA - good to hear that your family are taking good care of you. I hope its not too painful for too long, and that you can soon get your appetite back.
  • Lovely to hear from you, Rita. I imagine it is more painful to get out of a chair, because your knee has to take your full weight without the aid of the crutches. I am sure one of our friends, on here, who have been through the procedure, will give you some tips. Would one of those chairs that rise from the back and 'tip' forward, help you, but then you would eventually have to get the chair up to Scotland !!
My daughter had met a man, who lived further down her road, who has two greyhounds, who are exactly what you describe and what you  would expect of a greyhound. Daughter's dog appeared to be so happy for a while, and on all his previous weekend stays with her, but obviously a couple of nights away seems to have been his limit. He then became so aggressive. Knowing my daughter, she will go back to the kennels to see how the dog is now behaving. Over the six weeks she has known him, she had become attached to him emotionally. but now knowing that he has bitten two people, and listening to the vets advice, had obviously made her  very cautious when dealing with him.

  • Got to say goodnight, already really late - will look in tomorrow!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Rita – Good to see a post from you. It’s early days yet – not even a week? I had a walker (frame) in hospital, came home after a week to use a borrowed walking stick. You may find a stick easier to manage than crutches. Every few days I could do more. It was frustrating not to be able to drive for 6 weeks. After 4 months I felt good enough to go on one of my weekend bus trips. Keep at the exercises and soon you won’t believe what you can do.

Victoria trip continued. Day 6. By now I was exhausted, so I missed the day’s excursion. I spent the morning pottering around Hamilton and I slept away the afternoon. My pottering was successful as 2 churches were open and I was able to indulge my latest whim – stained glass. I posted the Catholic pics some time ago, the Anglican & rest of Hamilton are appearing over the next week. See here.
