The month at Loch Garten began with a strange feeling of how was the summer going to be got in. Well that proved to be quite easy as Odin and EJ provided plenty of displays for the cameras.
Breagha excited us with his first trip north. In the event he came back to his favourite stopover site in France and there he has remained up to now.
The Loch of the Lowes family have grown quickly and now two have been satellite tagged and ringed with one being just ringed.
The Manton bay family have grown quickly too and have now been ringed.
The Dyfi nest has been another model nest and the three chicks are now approaching five weeks old.
There was great excitement at Glaslyn when first the sixth and then the seventh egg hatched. A unique nest.
White 14 a 2013 chick from Bassenthwaite thrilled us all with his grand tour of Europe.
Once again the nests at Kielder have done well with less chicks than last year.
On Monday 1st June tragedy struck at Hellgate Canyon when an ice storm damaged all three eggs, so another failed nest.
So it has been a very mixed year. Hopefully July will see this year's chicks fledged.

Great pictures TIGER Good ol' R8T
They are stunning, Tiger.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Great photos Tiger of a favourite bird of mine. From the dialogue on facebook I take it he has no chicks this year??

Yes I am afraid so.
Has R8t failed due to no eggs, no hatchings or no mate. Seems a few failed nests in the area - I wonder if all intruder related or age?
Scratch my question, I see he and usual mate had eggs, wonder why they didn't hatch.

Not sure why.
Sorry that report that Red 8T does not have chicks seems to be an error. Apparently he has.
Ah well that is good news. Thanks for posting the correction. Given I don't have facebook I just read Roys last update which said 8T and usual mate had eggs.
My message from this morning is missing??
Thank you TIGER PLeased there is good news about Red 8T
So what exactly are the odds on all three chicks fledging on the same morning, with two of them going within a minute of each other? What a wonderful statistic for Dyfi.
