Good grief! Another week!
In case you missed it, Heather is now grandma to a little girl (as yet unnamed); Rita and tortoises have arrived safely at daughter's but tortoises got up to mischief; Diane is finishing up her freelance assignment, AQ's car floor mats have disintegrated, and OG has been doing the ironing. I've been out in the garden - how unusual. Anyway, it's all happening!
Have a good Monday all - it's the longest Monday of the year, so make the most of it..
MARGO - you are not a M O B. You are allowed to grumble, whinge & whine. Lots & lots of HUGS.
Good morning. Domestic day yesterday – waiting for promised rain which didn’t arrive. Had blood tests in the morning and went to public consultation in the evening about a power-line upgrade across Dumfries and Galloway. In the afternoon, OH made icecream, so I made meringues with the egg-whites. Not very successful (got a streak of yolk in) so I foresee Eton Mess or similar during the next few weeks (only eat pud one day a week, so will take a while to use them up!).
Wondering whether the rain today will actually reach us, or go round us again – hope we get it, for the garden. OH will be on museum duty this afternoon, and I want to bake some curd tarts, having found some curd cheese at the farers’ market – never tried it made from Goat’s Milk before – could be interesting! He is busy cleaning the lounge this morning so I can then show off my latest osprey ornament – made of glass in Wales.
Annette – pleased you are enjoying the new air-con unit in your room.
Linda – nice photos from Wales; the countryside was looking very green where we were, and I agree with your earlier comment about the wild flowers (although “boo” to those invasive rhododendrons!) I was cross last evening to notice that the verge of our town by-pass had been mown while the orchids were in bloom! BTW, I had to bring home Welshcakes for J who had enjoyed them when made by a lady he used to know.
Heather – pleased your house had stayed in good order during your absence! Good to read that Arabella had slept well.
Alan – your description of Aberdeen Butteries is so apt! I hate croissants anyway, find them so greasy, but the saltiness of butteries is even worse for my taste, and I have noticed most food in Aberdeenshire is much more salty than elsewhere.
Rita – pleased you and the menagerie are enjoying your holiday – and that rather peculiar lunch combo!
Margo – sorry to see you are so frustrated and fed-up with yourself, but I am sure you are not really a “M O B”! It is lovely that you are thinking of your OH, but I am sure he is pleased to be able to do all he can to make life more comfortable for you. We miss your posts, so don’t hesitate to come on here and tell us how things are, and what dear Billie has been doing to entertain you!
Brenda – thinking of you; I am sure it feels strange to have one of your “chicks” so far from the nest. It seemed strange that young Penny was travelling alone; I hope she has also arrived safely. I am sure you can soon enjoy planning a visit.
Diane – sorry to see it was still raining!
Annette – sorry about the fountain-cleaning job; do you use one of those water-clearing products to prevent deposits building up? Sounds like a very busy day for you today – take care.
Time for coffee now.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Oh yay. The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld a critical part of the Affordable Health Care Act. :-))
Back later!
ANNETTE - a small step in the right direction, but still no help for those most in need!
Diane, Thank you so much for such a lovely picture. So thoughtful of you. Son and his wife have been in touch quite a lot today. We also received pics of Penny when she was delivered to their temporary apartment. The apartment is on the 19th floor, so it is a long way down when Penny needs to go out. LOLSo glad that you finished that very long project, but sorry that the rain still continues to fall.
Linda, Hope you found a pair of comfy, strappy shoes. The hat may prove a little more difficult. I hope not.
OG, I notice that you have managed to type a long post, even though your hand is obviously still painful. Have I missed a picture of your latest osprey ornament. I am sure it must be wonderful, when made of glass.
Annette, I don't envy you cleaning your fountain. We had a three tier, large one in our last garden, which I loved, but it was a pain to keep clean. Even the pump would accumulate algae around the tubes. The wood pigeons loved to sit on the edge of one of the 'dishes' and you can imagine the mess that they left behind.A small step forward for the Affordable Health Care Act, must be good news.
Rita, Your post about your tortoise was a joy to read. You are the first person I have heard of, who has had to take their tortoise on holiday. I was wondering, that as tortoise are not allowed to be sold, how you would explain to the police, why you have five in the boot. LOL
I had a long conversation with Margo today. As Heather said, yesterday, she is still feeling miserable, and now describes herself as a MOB, which means her sense of humour is still surfacing. She is feeling frustrated, because of things she used to do and places she would visit, but is now unable to do. She said she will write a 'miserable' post shortly, but she does appreciate your lovely messages to her. :-))
BRENDA - no pics from me, holidays or ornaments, because since the most recent changes to this thread I have not been able to post photos at all!
LINDA - thanks for offer of help - will email you and describe what happens!
