WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2015

Hallo all.  Long day out; nice to see grandson and partner and see photos from the Bahamas.  Had a strawberry waffle for breakfast, but was seriously taken aback by frozen strawberries - this in a town literally surrounded by strawberry fields and farm stands bursting at the seams with luscious ripe berries.

Off to catch up with last few posts from the previous week.

  • LINDY - it's lovely to read your posts!

    Hi to all

OHs blood pressure done by GP, and as I had hoped and thank goodness, the reading was significantly lower than that recorded by our local pharmacist. I only asked him to get it checked at the pharmacy because he was constantly putting off going back to the doc following a slightly high reading three months ago. They asked him to return but, well, he doesn't always do as he is told. (Neither do I, it has to be said)

Pharmacy reading was 199/98 ,doc's print out averaged 140/70 which is exactly the same as before. No meds required :-))

ANNETTE- our Danish friends have a home BP monitor. OHs reading in Denmark was higher than today's GP reading but much less than the pharmacy one.

DIANE Thank goodness for the end of the project:-) I loved your picture of the bear.

Everyone else please forgive the lack of personal replies but thank you for providing me with entertaining reading as I flit around trying to get things organised before flying off tomorrow.

The weather is not what we would like, several of our large begonias have been damaged by cold winds, sweet peas pathetic. I could go on, but won't!

  • Heather - thank you! I could rabbit on, but always short on time, and also not wanting to bore everyone ;-) Hope that you can enjoy yourselves whatever the weather. Our sweet peas are not exactly rushing up their poles, I suspect that it's been too cold at night even though we've had some sunny days (with cold winds, I must add). Good news about your OHs blood pressure, I am not surprised though as mine shoots up as soon as I see the machine!! Have a good journey, without any worries!
  • Diane - pleased to see that you're near the end of your project - celebration will soon be in order!
  • Enjoyed my lunch with Friend, in a garden centre. I had pea & ham soup, which was so thick I could almost stand up the spoon in it! But it was very good! Friend had a Ploughman's Platter with two cheeses, a half piece of a pork pie, and a nice thick slice of ham, plus salad. I bought a nice rectangular plate or platter as a present for our Youngest & his wife, as it will nicely match what tableware they already have. They just celebrated ten years of marriage which seems ridiculous as I feel as if its only about four years.
  • Evening all: Very nice day with friend - light lunch, then a putter around a consignment shop that specializes in lovely dinner ware, silver, jewelry (did not buy anything; just looked!). Had a chat with the owners about trends in what people are selling/buying. Apparently, young people aren't into anything that can't be tossed in the dishwasher or microwave. A shame - maybe the next generation or two will rediscover bone china.  Anyway, then we puttered around the farners market and bought some veggies and flowers before heading home to trade garden stakes (mine) for home-grown tomatoes (hers). Yum!

Lindybird: Sounds like you're busy with all the right things.  I had roasted red pepper and corn soup and broccoli, apple, nuts, etc. salad. Oh and we shared a brownie for dessert.

Heather:  Nice that you can head south tomorrow and not have to worry about OH's BP.

Daughter is stopping by tomorrow on the way to a massage (a treat from granddaughter) and I'm hoping to make it to the gym at some point....

    Can't believe it's Friday already.

    Take care all.

  • Good Morning, All. I can't believe it's Friday, either! Your day sounded good Annette. My OH is off to a golf competition day today, so I'm popping into the town to get some photos processed, then down to the h'work and ironing. Have some ready meals in the fridge for tonight, as don't know what time my OH will get back. Hope all those travelling today have a safe and pleasant journey.
  • Food shop excursion this morn. Not a long list so how did I get so many bags of stuff?  With car boot out of action til repaired, I pile shopping on floor behind front seat. Home at last, what’s this black stuff on my kitchen bench? Looks like soot. It’s on my shopping bags. Further investigation shows the car floor mats are covered in it. Tried vacuuming (that was a marathon to lug cleaner outside & plug extension in garage). Hm, I just raised a dust storm. The mats are disintegrating - all mats now in rubbish bin. Gee whiz, the car is only 10 years old. After lunch I made pasties (previous batch only made t’other week must have been eaten by gremlins <grin>). Cool day. Today’s temps ranged from 4.8 to 15.4 C. Still no rain.

  • Ugh, AQ. How horrible to find the mats in such a state. And an extra cleaning job or two, just when you don't need it! Hope it all disappeared into the cleaner and you're done with it. Your temps sound the same as ours!
  • Good Morning Everyone. Sunny here, with some cloud. 17.3c
I played in a long bowls match yesterday afternoon and so I do have some aches this morning. We did win though. I need to do some HW. We haven't had much rain so the garden is getting very dry and on the warmer days, I open the patio doors, which means the main sitting room becomes very dusty, including dried leaves, twigs etc.

Heather, Pleased to read that your OH's BP is fine. Anyhow, just realised you are already flying South.

I guess Rita, will also be on the road, with the tortoise and Amber.

AQ, I guess your summer high temperatures help to destroy your car mats. I am going to take my car to be washed and valeted later today. It has become so dirty recently and the men at the car cleaning centre, clean it so much better and quicker than we do :-))

Annette, I have a 12 place, dinner service, which I love, but is rarely used. It is not dishwasher proof. I doubt if either of my children will want it. Washing dishes by hand is never met with approval, although I have been relieved of some of our glassware, which can't go in the dishwasher !!!

Linda, Have you ever played golf ? My OH has tried to encourage me, over the years, to take it more seriously, but I can't say that I enjoy it. He taught both of our children, though. He hardly plays much golf himself these days, although he has played in various bowls matches, every day this week. he will be playing again this evening.

Must continue with the vacuum cleaner and polish :-((

  • Still here, BRENDA, flight is 1630.

I may not be welcomed home lol, ordered a pair of comfy flats from the Hotter online shop (half price sale always good) They are ready for collection from the shop here. The email says photographic ID required so I phoned and explained that OH would collect, was that OK? Answer YES so I told them to look out for a little old man with white hair. Made the mistake of telling my beloved.....

LINDY and ANNETTE, I love reading about food and eating of same and AQ, send pasties ASAP to a little old man etc etc.

Must go and pack. Then vacuum entire house but like LINDY and BRENDA, there will be grass, leaves, etc blown/trodden in by the time I get home. Culprit being the same man who collects ladies shoes and likes pasties. When the cats away and so on.

Bye for now, will catch up with you all tonight, hopefully.
