Last night when I started the DU thread I thought it might almost be the last one of the year. Little I knew that come morning EJ would be back incubating the egg.
EJ did spend most of the day on the egg but has now abandoned it again.
So we reach 22 May traditionally the last day for egg laying in the osprey season in Scotland. It is hard to believe that the egg laying season is over for another year and the hatching is about to begin. The male ospreys are going to have a hard time for the next one hundred or so days.
For once Odin will be excused.

LOL. Probably just as well you did not report what OH's reply was!!. I think there IS WiFi where you are staying but OH has a way of 'blocking' it so he can visit the Pub!!
Birdies LG DU update.
I am having three weeks in a row this year. Can't wait Mary and I don't even care if the sun doesn't shine :)
Have a lovely break BirdieNN.
Birdie Num Num's brilliant DU summary 2017
I hope you'll all forgive my posting the following here. I personally knew about this but not all the details. I post it here beacause it may help us all understand Odin even more. Thank you.
Osprey news from around the UK
Meanwhile, news from Rutland Osprey Project - managed by Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust - has been more mixed.
The Site B nest has provided even greater drama of the unwelcome kind. The veteran male 03(97) returned on 18 March (the first arrival at Rutland), followed by his unringed mate of seven years on 24th March.
By 12 April, they had produced a clutch of eggs and everything seemed to be going to plan, when the peace was suddenly shattered by the arrival of not one, but two rival males.
A young bird 51(11) fought with 03(97) and successfully drove him from the nest. He then proceeded to deliver new nesting material and scraped out the egg cup - destroying the eggs as the female watched on helplessly.
Meanwhile 03(97) had retreated to a nearby fishing pond and regained sufficient strength to attempt to reclaim the nest. As a second battle ensued a third male 30(10) who was also without a nest appeared and seized the opportunity to stake his claim.
Prolonged fighting between the three birds over a number of days eventually resulted in 03(97) somehow managing to see off the two younger challengers to win back the nest and his partner. The latest news is that the female has laid at least one further egg so hopefully there will be some offspring produced from the nest this year.
Thanks Cirrus. Odin has certainly had a hard time of it this year. I think that he has done really well to defend the nest and reclaim it, and sadly as at Rutland, lost his eggs.
Fenrir (or another male intruder) just landed briefly

Fenrir just landed briefly
More like "touched down", I wonder if someone put him off a full landing?
They might be in the wrong order.
