I am probably not the best person to be starting this thread right now as I am not that familiar with what has been going on all day. However I know essential a task it is and how tiresome it can become if it falls to the same small group every night.
What I do know is that Odin seems to have his best day since Monday 4th May, the last full day he was in control of the nest.
Well Odin seems to be back in control now and I guess most will be very happy about that with the exception of Finrir.
It will be interesting to see how things progress from here.
Enjoy another day of viewing.

It's hard to fish in strong wind, but he'll bring one along asap ;)
EJ isn't burning much energy just sitting there and can survive on very little, as we have seen, but a nice big fish like last night would go down a treat.

I'm not expert, but I agree with your thoughts on bonding and sitting, MOFFER. I am finding this year all quite fascinating, particularly the fact that he clearly doesn't think it his duty now to incubate the solitary egg. He seems aware it is not viable, but EJ's hormones are still telling her to sit. I wonder how long this will last if the egg doesn't get kicked out. We have also learned that she can go quite a while without fish, when all she is doing is sitting. I must go back and see if I can tell exactly how long.

I think That Odin is a bit confused about the egg. When he left, there were 3 eggs that he loved to sit on. Now there is only one. I wonder if he thinks that egg belongs to Fen, so wants it gone, regardless if it's viable or not.
Sadly I am sure he is confused. He does look almost 'tenderly' down on her at times, and he has looked, well, bemused when he has seen the egg. I can't remember now, but did Odin have a go at kicking the egg out when he got back, and failed.
Yes Sheila. He tried to kick it out yesterday morning while EJ was eating
Yes he did, SHEILA.

I have to go soon. I'm babysitting tonight. I will try to work out their fancy laptop so I can at least watch, even if I can't get back here to comment. I'll leave it all on 'till the last minute.
My brimming-with-new-RAM laptop is working again *phew!*
I don't care if EJ doesn't need a fish - she wants one and Odin should be supplying her >:(
Mind you, I can be cross with him now but all he's got to do is appear on the nest and my heart melts ;-)
Evenin' all (as a certain policeman used to say a LONG time ago) - thanks for all updates through the day, and for Lmac's on the spot report. A permanent reporter on site would definitely be a good idea!
Sorry there's been no fish so far, but at least it's been quiet. RE Odin's fishing:- even before the disruption on the nest, and his temporary disappearance, he seemed to me that he was bringing fewer fish than I'd remembered from previous years, at this stage of the season. I had wondered, when he first turned up, if he was below par in some way - he arrived in the middle of the night, and seemed to be really exhausted for quite a while. Perhaps he has some lingering weakness that is still affecting his behaviour? Just a thought.
EJ looking lovely (as usual) in the evening sunlight. Would she look even more beautiful if she had a fish? !!!!
