As you may know, it has been revealed that we've actually been on the "lower frame, higher quality" transmission for well over a week. During that time we've missed most fly-ins and fly-outs, lots of other activity, and even EJ eating a fish on the nest. As one of our number said "the picture quality can't get worse than it is now", so...
I feel that the supposed increase in picture quality doesn't compensate for significant loss of nest activity.
Shall we ask Carnyx to revert to higher frame rate, lower quality picture - in which case we should see everything that goes on, even if it's somewhat blurred at times... often ;-)
Sorry, everyone.
YES = revert to lower quality
No = keep it as it is now.

I completely agree with this.
Tiger Signature
Well said, Deveronside.
Ditto the above. DOP is well supported because they are doing what the RSPB never have.

Absolutely correct and many other sites as well.
Birdies LG DU update.

I completely agree with this.[/quote] I also fully endorse. Re which option on the cam is the lesser of the 2 evils, I too will leave it to the providers of pics and vids (such an invaluable resource, both for following current activity and, just as importantly, for historical reference). Now we've all seen what option 2 is like in practice, perhaps all you skilled documenteers (probably not a real word, but never mind) should have a discussion amongst yourselves (on a separate thread, perhaps?) to evaluate the technical pros and cons of each option.

Unfortunately (from your point of view, OSM - and you have to make do with initials as I don't have my text inserter on this laptop), we mustn't have more threads, we're supposed to keep them to a minimum for the sake of the important nest and osprey info threads.
I know that those (plural, note!) who do the most capturing and video-ing would prefer to go back to Option 1 because they don't feel that we are getting clear views for ID purposes now.
My vote is...........
Since the changeover to the higher quality transmission I have been watching the nest regularly, I personally found the previous lower picture quality irritating, then switch to another nest webcam in frustration.
Although I do agree with others that the vote goes to the individuals that provide us with the recordings.
I do prefer the better definition of the present option 2, even though there are freezes, as the No 1 option had the bad blurring of any movement at all.
Both options are not very good. Option one was blurry but we didn't get as many freezes. Option two CAN give a better pic but doesn't always and lots of freezes. It's a hard one to call. Since the camera zoomed in (no green thing on the left of the pic anymore) the quality of the frames has been worse. I would say stick where we are, but will agree with Scylla in whatever she chooses.
