Well not unexpectedly the season came to an end on Saturday morning when the intruding male broke the final egg.
As EJ is still in brooding mode she is still spending a lot of time on the nest brooding non existent eggs.
It now remains to be seen what will happen next. A variety of things could happen but as always with ospreys they will usually surprise us.
I guess the only way to find out is to keep watching.

Well on that comforting thought fron CIRRUS, I must say goodnight - unless I pop back LOL!

And I am so mentally weary I am going to roost now also and hope I don't regret it. Since I'll probably have a wake period in the night, I'll look in hoping for a positive post of some sort. Happily, I'm going to bed relieved and not in grief. Thank you all for your posts and pics and company. Good night.
Could well be Cirrus, but EJ is still very alert and not in night-time mode at all.

Goodnight Cirrus and Sheila. I too am giving in. Hope for good news in the morning.
Unknown said:Well that would be a nice thought but I think not quite yet for poor Odin. If he were back with no intruder he and EJ would be bonding and as he isn't on the nest then I think he still has trouble to deal with
That is what worries me LMAC. If he is still having to fight, is he able to continue defending. We don't know where he has been, or if he has been injured or just exhausted.
hope for nest sightings and visits from Odin when I wake
Thanks everyone for all the posts. Good night all, I'm off now.
Gosh, doesn't it get dark quickly. A bit too much glare now.

[/quote]That's why I am not celebrating this news Brenda. We have a very very long week ahead, even if Odin is able to hold on. He lost out somewhere along the line last week, and EJ is sitting it out waiting on the strongest bird to return. We should not for a second think she is casually waiting on Odin, she has shown in previous years procreation is her main thought whoever that may be with - the best and strongest male. EJ will accept the winner as she is clearly not intervening

Well, regardless, at the very least EJ will be able to go fishing for herself if she gets hungry, if she is willing to leave the nest for that long.
