Daily Update ~ Loch Garten Nest ~ Sunday, 10 May 2015

Well not unexpectedly the season came to an end on Saturday morning when the intruding male broke the final egg.

As EJ is still in brooding mode she is still spending a lot of time on the nest brooding non existent eggs.

It now remains to be seen what will happen next. A variety of things could happen but as always with ospreys they will usually surprise us.

I guess the only way to find out is to keep watching.

  • I know the photographers rate the place but is no more than a pond and not a big one at that. Its so close to the A9 its alarming.

  • Eggs would be lovely now that Odin is back and they don't have to bond (start from scratch) I wouldn't rule eggs out, but if not, it's wonderful to have them back together. Sorry, I'm still grinning like an idiot here.

  • Well on 22nd May 2007 she laid the third egg of her second clutch.  It's not over yet.......though she was only 10 years old then.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Champers it is!  (when I've finished my beer!)

Waiting for the next blog is killing me.  Wonder what's happening?

  • Evening all!

Finally home again (hurrah for proper broadband again!!), and relieved to see our EJ still on the nest, and it's not an empty one. She's looking calm and revived in her 3 o'clock position, just like old times... only our boy is not there for her to chirp at...

Going to read back on all today's thread now... thanks to all the sterling, wonderful people who make it possible for me to catch up on the day's happenings - I appreciate you all! :)

  • Ah the stress Moffer of them being viable...

Will need to stock up on my Valium before June maybe?

What brilliant news.  The best.  I always knew he was alive!! just biding his time and gaining his strength.  Possibly did not want to come back to fight off 3 males so possibly waited for one (OC) to get rid of possible other two so that he would only have one to deal with! that's my theory anyway!   Can't wait for further news.  Also hope ODIN moves OC on! that's putting it diplomatically!  I AM SO HAPPY!  (Have been thinking of fellow blogger Cirrus a lot over these past few days who we know loves our Tufty Boy to death) - I for one am breaking open the beer! or champers even!)  Just so happy he is alive.

Thank you for your thoughts STINGRAY. I have  been totally 'out for the count' about it all. Let's make it champers shall we?

Champers it is then (after I've finished my beer!)

Eager to read next blog.  Wonder what is happening.

  • Hi, Chocoholix!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
