I know before I begin that this is not going to be a popular thread but then all the more reason why we should have it.
As it looks now Orange Chested male may well be the new male in residence at Loch Garten. Of course he may not either.
However just in case he is I am starting this thread to record his reign right from the start.
This morning he has disposed of the remains of what was the 2015 clutch of eggs.
Now in doing so he was just exhibiting normal osprey behaviour. Male ospreys do not like raising chicks that belong to another male.
If he had been smarter and took a strategic view then he might have accepted the eggs and helped raise three chicks. However if he did he would not be an osprey. Have you ever tried to tell your cat not to kill birds? Well in my experience, admittedly from long ago, the cats did not want to know.
So let us use this thread to record the history of this new male, just as we have done with other ospreys including Odin.
I am not yet 100% convinced that Odin is dead. Who knows he may well reappear.
Tiger Signature
Does the fact that he stands up to the camera like Odin not appeal?
No. He falls far short of Odin in the looks department.
It's ironic that I was saying recently that there's no such thing as an ugly osprey.......OC isn't exactly ugly but he's no beauty either.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Tell us how you feel Clare! LOL.
Birdies LG DU update.
I suppose that OC might be attractive to EJ but he's like a pimply youth when compared to the Magnificent Odin. ( tongue in cheek). Would be good if Odin were to be spotted even if not at Lochgarten!! Thanks very much for the posts!!

Do not hold back Clare. :)
I suppose it doesn't help his case that even though we have no way of knowing what actually happened to Odin - and any of the three intruders could have been responsible for his disappearance - the hard fact remains that OC is to some extent carrying the can for all three of the intruders due to his destruction of EJ's eggs.
But I looked at 3.26 your time and several times this morning and all I'm seeing is an empty nest!1
boo hoo!!
It doesn't help that the camera keeps skipping and jumping. There have been long periods of emptiness.
Whereabouts are you, Vivienne?
Hiya, I'm in Methoni in Greece atm, been travelling Europe and back for 6 years Osprey watching. last visit LG when Richard was there, 2009!!
I sympathise completely with you Clare. At the moment I do not find him at all an attractive osprey. He looks, well, different!
Perhaps when he starts to bring in nesting material, and fish, and EJ chirps to him when he arrives, and she calls gently for fish, well perhaps I will change my mind! Meanwhile, I will give him a chance, if EJ does!
