I know before I begin that this is not going to be a popular thread but then all the more reason why we should have it.
As it looks now Orange Chested male may well be the new male in residence at Loch Garten. Of course he may not either.
However just in case he is I am starting this thread to record his reign right from the start.
This morning he has disposed of the remains of what was the 2015 clutch of eggs.
Now in doing so he was just exhibiting normal osprey behaviour. Male ospreys do not like raising chicks that belong to another male.
If he had been smarter and took a strategic view then he might have accepted the eggs and helped raise three chicks. However if he did he would not be an osprey. Have you ever tried to tell your cat not to kill birds? Well in my experience, admittedly from long ago, the cats did not want to know.
So let us use this thread to record the history of this new male, just as we have done with other ospreys including Odin.
I am not yet 100% convinced that Odin is dead. Who knows he may well reappear.
Tiger Signature
A male lion taking over a pride will usually kill any excisting cubs and I am sure this is natural behaviour in other species too
I think the thread is a good idea as you say. What will be will be but it will be good to have a record from the outset. Who knows how long it may run?.
Birdies LG DU update.

It could finish today or it might run for years.
Quite.
your right Mike what will be will be. Thank you Tiger for starting the thread.
I too have not completely given up on Odin but feel that starting this thread is a good idea. This victorious male deserves, at the very least, some recognition for his prowess.
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
Equally Chloe experience has taught us that being able to look back in time has major benefits and Tiger is quite right in starting this thread for who knows what the future may bring and how often it may be referred to in later times.

Very true Mike
In a couple of weeks we'll all love him. Let's hope his perceived immaturity is not a hindrance to his bonding with EJ. EJ will decide whether he is suitable mate material.
