Evening all: Welcome back, Alicat! As usual, all quiet on the LG nest; breezy at LOTL. FYI, I may not watch very late tonight as we have someone coming early in the morning to install French doors between the kitchen and "my" room and it's been a busy day.
BrendaH thanks for reminding me about this. Perhaps we worry a little too much but I just can't help it.
Margobird
Lindybird a gorgeous contrast to watch but not so good for EJ being surrouned in the nest by snow.
I know I'm away ahead of myself here but I;m thinking how useful for us it would be if Sir Roy,or whoever may be doing the ringing this year had various colours of rings this year just to make observations of the chicks that much easier
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy. Spike Milligan
Sounds sensible, Soosin. Don't know if there is usually any significance to which colours he chooses to use, normally (??)
If I remember correctly last year the chicks had hatched when there was a snow storm. I remember EJ with her wings spread and her head down sheltering them . Her head, body and wings were covered in snow. And as everyone knows they all survived.
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
Margo, I know what you mean, but there is a long way to go yet.
Barbara, Thank you.I think you will find that most on this thread have all saved Big Rab's videos. I can remember conversations through the winter months, when one of us would mention we were viewing his compilation while we waited for their return. I so agree with you, they are a joy to watch.
Gosh I can't remember the snow at all last year except for the weekend of the 16th April whenwe were up there . There was still lots of snow on the Cairngorms but can't remember any later on in the season. Another senior moment, doh.lol

I think Roy gets the rings from a licensing society. He has so many birds to ring is such a short period of time I doubt he can take the time to color coordinate them
He has a funny story in his book about guessing the sex. He makes an educated guess and he is usually correct, but some times he is wrong. He ringed a bird he was sure was a female. When it came back to breed he said "Oops I guess that was a male" LOL
I have to go now, but will look in again 1st thing tomorrow. Happy osprey watching, All.
Good Night Linda. I am off too. Good Night ALL
