T(or not)In The Park

A Google search revealed this so I have started a new thread has been suggested.

I understand that two chicks successfully fledged the nest.  They weren't ringed because the land owner would not allow access to the land.

I can understand the landowners view. They protected this tree from being cut down. They did not support any actions taken by Strathallan Owners nor DF Concerts or by the Conservationist employed as an advisor by DF Concerts.

So I think not to allow the conservationist access to the nest to ring was probably the correct decission.

The concert will go ahead for the next two years at this venue that is for sure. I was up yesterday and speaking to an environmental officer carrying out an inspection looking at the landscape being restored to its pre concert days. Unsure what will be the outcome of the nest over the winter period but I will keep an eye on it.

No birds yesterday around the estate in normal positions and the last sighting on the estate was at the weekend but not sure which bird it was possibly the Male. Quickly flew passed the tree line near to the nest.

  • Thank you so much for your on-the-spot report, Keith. I too could sympathise with the land owner with the nest, but it is a pity they young will not be identified in the future.

  • It appears that Strathallan has not yet been brought back to its original state, with litter now lying in the mud and no evidence of the grass being re-seeded.  STAG has produced a recent video.  Perhaps Keith would be able to verify its findings?

  • Thank you for posting the link to the video SheilaFE. So Geoff Ellis, Director of T in the park fails to keep his promise to return the site to its original state within 2 weeks of the festival being held? And still gets to keep the grant and hold the festival at Strathallan for the next 2 years (minimum)....????

I look forward to the findings of Audit Scotland as reported by Lmac on 22 August, but to my mind there has been so much corruption and glad-handing (call it what you will), and not enough conservation at the forefront that I don't hold any hope of an alternative, more suitable location being found. I have lost a lot of respect for the major wildlife/nature organisations who have ducked under the parapet.

  • thanks Mike, was just coming on to put that link into thread.

  • Many thanks Mike. It just gets worse by the day.

I am so sorry, but I hit 'spam' on your post, rather than 'like'.

  • Latest in The Courier today - I have to pay to get more info.

    12 December 2015

T in the Park bosses are facing enforcement action over alleged breaches of planning rules, The Courier can reveal.

Perth and Kinross Council has accused DF Concerts of failing to comply with a catalogue of regulations.

The conditions were set down by the local authority when planning permission was granted for the festival’s move to Strathallan Castle earlier this year.

Now event organisers face penalties of up to £6,000 unless they comply with demands ahead of next summer’s show.

Among the conditions, DF Concerts will have to submit a fresh transport management plan after criticism over traffic chaos during July’s event.

The company will also have to give assurances it will stick to agreed working hours when preparing the site and ensure all sensitive areas and watercourses are protected by buffer zones.
