T(or not)In The Park

A Google search revealed this so I have started a new thread has been suggested.

  • Not to mention the theft of a cash machine!  It was heartbreaking to read of the teenagers' deaths - why on earth will people take recreational drugs?  If only the whole world said NO to them.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Just to update everyone, the nest was monitored by a team of ornithologists from March when the birds arrived. The female is a different bird from last year, and as far as I am aware there are 2 chicks. An exclusion zone of around 275m was set up with no pedestrians allowed in this area. This was breached a number of times during the event, mainly by staff who didn't think it applied to them!! including the police who entered to retrieve the drawers from the cash machine.

The breaches were reported and will be part of the post event debrief. The birds appear to have coped with the event again.

Weather on Friday was good and the birds were seen a few times during the day, Saturday and Sunday were wet and the birds were keeping well hidden.

The chicks hatched about a week after LotL so are due to fledge in about a week.

  • Thank you Strathallan for the update. I'm pleased to read that the nest has been successful again.

  • Thankful to see a good report on the ospreys - despite further breaches of the conditions laid down when the three-year licence was granted.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Goldfinch, They got Planning approval for 3 years but need to get a public entertainment licence each year. As this was year 2, they will need to apply soon to renew the planning approval.

As well as the ospreys, there are other protected species on site.

Interesting times, political pressure on PKC to keep TitP but nothing is guaranteed.

  • The Twin Atlantic T-shirst with the osprey picture donated (I think) 30% of profits to local wildlife charities. I'm sure some was going to SWT at LotL

  • Thank you so much Strathallan for the report. Not good to hear about the breaches and hope they will be taken into account, as you say, in the debriefing. Thrilled to hear the ospreys seem to have come through ok, fingers crossed the other protected species fared well too. Also that a thorough clean up job will be conducted post event.

  • This is good news Strathallanm thanks for updating us. Hope the young have a safe and happy fledge.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Many thanks, Strathallan, for your interesting update on the situation of TitP.  It is excellent to hear that the nest has been successful again, and that two chicks should fledge shortly.  Ospreys know best, as we all know!  If they had fledged during the event, I hate to think of any repurcussions.  After a further two deaths on the site it will be interesting to see whether the organisers are granted a public entertainment licence.  A case of 'watch this space'.

  • Strathallan, Thanks for the update.

Clare, Re:  recreational drugs.  Apparently, there is a gene or sequence of genes in some humans which makes them seek thrills, excitement and risk while other humans do not have that gene.  Perhaps that is why some people take drugs, climb mountains, go cave diving, become test pilots, set off across deserts with almost nothing, hike solo to the south pole, etc.!  Crossing the street is normally just about enough excitement for me!

    Kind regards, Ann
