Hi all: Don't forget to check last few comments of last week's chat and a lovely photo from OG - of Loch Garten I assume. Alan: Wonderful close up of EJ on the last Daily Update. Thanks to everyone else for all the news from far and wide.
Just in from Earth Day event, which had a lot more transportation (electric/natural gas, etc) options on display this year, including bikes of all shapes and sizes (SB is a big bike town with lots of bike paths, even throughout downtown). Spoke to a friend of a friend there who is setting up a raptor rescue center at the Natural History Museum; also the California Condor group who are trying to figure out how to set up a live cam at the condor feeding station in the back country. They're thinking maybe solar power, but then there's the problem of relaying the signal, etc. If that's successful, they may try one at the nesting sites, but the problem is that condors don't nest in trees - they like caves, so a logistical hurdle for further down the road. Not to mention the "permit" hurdles, which are major given that the condors are still highly endangered. In addition to the usual solar, green, organic farms, foods and other community display booths there was the usual band and "green" gifts area. Didn't buy anything but did visit my friend with his spiffy electric car and bumped into another friend - a "Master Gardener" at another booth where we sat and chatted for an hour.
All quiet on the LG and LOTL nests right now; doesn't look windy or wet.
Thank you Tiger! Wasn't that a magnificent fish the osprey fished out? That's the best footage of an osprey fishing i've seen. I would not have seen it without your link.
Smiles, Jan.

Yes ChloeB, I did correct my post. I wouldn't want to offend any local residents.
Careful BrendaH or you may get a yellow card. LOL
Tiger : Thanks for the link to the BBC clip. I also missed it.

So true Alan. Note to self --- Check posting more carefully before pressing the button. It can alter the whole context of the message, by missing a vital word.
Good morning Lindybird. Watched TV news and what a wonderful shot of an osprey fishing. They were talking to Roy Dennis who seems to think it could work, but I still have some misgivings about it. Would love the opportunity to see ospreys just down the road but i worry about how populated it is al around and in the summer months it increases. Alan pointed out yesterday that urban ospreys in the US face many dangers. Good day here and so pleased that itis not raining for EJ and Odin, they deserve some sun and warmth now.
Have a good day.
Good morning Brenda I have very mixed feelings about the polyospreys. As I have said I would love to travel just a short distance from home to see ospreys but still think there are all sorts of hazards for them in an urban environment.
OG: Thanks for the wonderful pic of the yellowhammer. When I first moved to where I live now I was delighted to find there was quite a decent population of these charming little birds nearby. Unfortunately I haven't seen one for several years now so your pic was a nice reminder.
Alan: Do you know who carved the chainsaw osprey sculpture at RW? Was it Andy Barton (who did the one on the Oakham bypass, currently my avatar) or is it by someone else?

Sandy : It was indeed Andy Barton. What an amazing piece of work it is.

Anyway, it's just past 10 and I'm going to call it a night. Take care all. Have a nice Saturday.
