Hallo all:

Soosin posted the following about her Saturday and various bird sightings, etc.,  at the very end of the last Daily Update, so I'm copying it here otherwise no-one will see them (she saw mating kingfishers!). And Alan posted some new links, which are also here (Hope that was okay Soosin and Alan).

From Soosin: Just in from a day in Galloway visiting rellies.  What weather, fantastic,  Saw mating kingfishers at Cumstoun Bridge, Kirkcudbright. and an Osprey on tje nest at Threave Castle our first house martins of the year and possible first swallow but in car and couldn't be sure.  Spring definitely here. whooopeee  Great to catch up with all your obs and pics from throughout day. So, they still seem to be sharing, aahh, how nice. Empty nest looking well padded with moss with  the night vision on it.  Someone mentioned a new blog.  off to read that now. Be out all day again tomorrow. on the hill hoping for Ring Ousel

From Alan: Nesting calendars for Owls and Hawks, International falcons and US falcons have been updated. http://peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewforum.php?f=6

New Forest Goshawks have at least 2 eggs now. http://www.newforestgateway.org/Wildcam/LiveCameras/tabid/117/Default.aspx

jsb: Thanks for the link to to Capercaille call - was it you who said it wasn't one you could whistle to?  Right!

  • Morning all: What is going on with all these earthquakes and volcanos; well one volcano.  It's enough to make me check our emergency earthquake stash of canned stuff, water, etc.  Looks chilly at LG.

Tiger: Missed your early post about the Titanic - that was some egg!

Wattle: Thanks so much for that link - I'd gone to Amazon where they let you see some pages, but not many. I don't remember the heroine in the book I read being quite so feisty as the Brilliant Career protagonist. I really will have to ask my sister.

Lindybird: Thanks for the pix, but all I can see are feet and feathers; maybe I'll just leave it at that. :-)

Margobird: Thanks for including OG's original post in yours - I missed her original one. Tx also for the update on the LOTL nest. Hmm

OG: Welcome back!! Yes indeed, the news of your cake was spread far and wide on the "official" blog. Glad you see you've been spoiling the staff on our behalf.

Alan: Hope the sheltered spot in your garden did the trick.

Grandson due to arrive for help with car repairs today - another young male confused about his role. :-)   But he's getting there.  Off to the shower; take care all.

  • Diane: Did you see the fireball over Indiana last night? Apparently a meteor, but quite a show and apparently visible in parts of Indiana.

Note to self: In addition to checking earthquake supplies, pick up a hard hat.  :-)

  • Oh my goody goodness Annette - Fireball? Wish I'd seen it  - must have been quite a show. Is everybody OK over there?   Did you see it Diane?  Maybe it was Jeff Bridges aka Starman landing in Shmogwin bay (can't spell it - so sorry) .

  • Hi All:   Had a busy couple of days.  Yesterday Dog decided to throw up, not once but several times.  We decided he's Eaten Something He Really Shouldnt Have - you know what dogs are like, they will eat anything. After a day of cleaning it up every now and then, and keeping him from eating anything else, we went out to dinner as it was our Wedding Anniversary:  just went to a pub that does a good meal - OH had Shoulder of Lamb with all trimmings, veg etc.  and I had Pork Medallions in Sage & Brandy Gravy - yum! We decided to ignore our dieting as a special occasion, and he had Apple crumble, & I had spicy Orange Cheesecake = even more Yum!  Slept well last night after all that meal & a couple of glasses of wine.

Alan:    Your trip to Rutland Water sounds good.  How nice to also see a lovely red Kite, too.

dibnlib:   Thanks for the lovely Red Squirrel pic, so cute and curled up.

ps     Dog is OK now and running around as usual.  The back door mat is outside having been thoroughly washed after its dramas as he failed to reach the garden in time.

  • ps:  Welcome Back,  OG !  Looking forward to any pics you may have of your trip.

  • Hi, everyone. I wanted to say that I'm sorry about the volcano eruption, and I hope you all are not suffering ill effects from the ash. My Dad has lung disease, and I know how much damage and irritation that particulates like the ash can cause. Take care of yourselves and wear masks if you need to. --Di

  • Thanks Diane   Nice of you to think of us - I think we are all OK at present, only those in the very far north and outlying islands affected so far.  All airlines grounded tho, as a precaution & theyve just announced that it will last until at least tomorrow lunchtime.

Do go over to the Daily Page, and the webcam as we HAVE AN EGG!!

  • Annette and Cirrus: I sooo regret that I didn't see the fireball. I have seen the videos, and it was really awesome.  It rattled windows and caused trees and the ground to shake. Reports were of four to five minutes of explosions or rumbling, and the light was visible for 15 minutes! Hmmm. And, although the meteor crash site has been narrowed down, no impact site has been found. Hmmm. Very strange!

Here's the video of the fireball. I assume you can see it outside the U.S. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/04/15/midwest.fireball/index.html

News report for the midwest: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100415/ap_on_re_us/us_midwest_meteor

Has anybody been watching V, the new series about alien invasion?

  • Thanks, Lindybird, that's just EGGCELLENT!

  • TIGER  these are 2 rescued baby red sqirrels whose drey was blown down in the wind. I took it from Scotlands pictures which are posted on the Scotland news page every Friday. I often use them as a desk top and now we have a new camera we may send some of ours off
