Daily Update (LG Nest) Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Not sure how much I'll see tonight, given computer problems. Can't see any wind action at LG - don't know if it's calm or of the image is frozen!

She has left the fish lying on nest. . Guess she can't be very hungry.

She has exited and left fish on nest !!

If she has  taken to  fishing for herself she wouldn't be hungry

Another interesting year of  twists and turns

Now the  question is will she take a new  male if Odin continues to neglect his duties ?

Last year  he  eagerly brought in a lot of  nesting material  right from day one. Remember the  large branches and all the  red moss he hauled in ? So far  he has brought in very little  this year

    What changed with  him???

  • I'm sorry, have I missed something. How do we know that Odin isn't catching fish for EJ?

Nice bit of evening sun now, on the LG nest (even tho its empty just now).  According to the Weather gurus, we are to have warmer weather all over UK this week, so hope it will be pleasanter for EJ sitting on the nest, and doing her housework etc.

Evening Lindybird i am sure EJ and Odin will appreciate some sun and not the high winds that they have both been experiencing.  She has endured the very worst of weather since she arrived and Odin must have had to battle through all sorts to get there.  So glad they have been seen on the nest as each time I looked this afternoon the nest was empty.

Exactly, we don't know.  We are just surmising.

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.

  • I'm  wondering the same Sandy.  Obviously my work getting in the way and I've missed lots today.

Do we not think that he's feeding her on the tree.  I'm thinking  she's obviously not hungry if she's leaving fish in the nest.  Is it not easiier for them to perch rather sit on the nest hence she spending a lot of time in camera tree and still keeping an eye on the nest. Will fishing for herself in these early days not also keep her fit and in good condition for the longs days of brooding ahead of her.??

    Sorry so many questions.

As I said above, she can't be hungry, she has left a fish on the nest.

  • Hi all. Back from errands; more stuff to do around the house.   Thanks for observations!  Tiger: Thanks for heads up on Richard's note on the last blog; (also read an entry by David saying no third bird has been on/around the nest) and thanks for that summary of a previous year's drama. What a mess that was.

Well, initially, EJ was primarily staying on the nest. I personally watched hours of loud food soliciting, which went unanswered by Odin. Many mating attempts occurred and were witnessed, but fish were not brought in. We saw one side of the ritual, but not the other. After a long period of not receiving any fish, she left the nest. Also, this was David's (at LG) comment on the blog:

"Just to let you all know EJ is sitting on the camera tree munching a fish she caught earlier, Odin has been out and about since this morning, probably fishing but also getting some peace and quiet!"

So that suggested to me that she is doing most of her own fishing. But you're correct that my comments were speculative, and right after posting, I edited to acknowledge that we can't know for certain what is happening out of our view.
