Odin( I think) just brought in some nesting material, but EJ is not there. He is looking around and no EJ
In Roy Dennis' book, "A Life of Ospreys", he says that part of the mating ritual is the male brings 2-3 fish a day to the female to bring the her into peak condition after her long migration.
Odin has not been feeding EJ. Would she reject him if he doesn't feed her now for fear he would not feed her and the chicks when she can't fish because she is brooding ?

Was that EJ? I thought it was Odin. A whiter breast and I didn't see a leg band . I could be wrong . Sometimes it is difficult to tell these birds apart. :)
Tish - sorry if I confused you earlier by referring to David's comment - I just happened to check if anything had been added by staff members - I noticed David replied to a question yesterday! Have had visitors this afternoon so first chance I've had to catch up.

Nice bit of evening sun now, on the LG nest (even tho its empty just now). According to the Weather gurus, we are to have warmer weather all over UK this week, so hope it will be pleasanter for EJ sitting on the nest, and doing her housework etc.

Barbara Jean that is a very astute and important question. A related big question is: Even if she doesn't reject him, will she be able to maintain egg-laying condition if she has to provide all of the fish for herself? That is, will she be burning off too much of her intake of fat/calories if she has to fish so often?
If EJ still has memory of her hunger when OVS was her mate, she may be wary of investing herself in a season with a potential poor provider. I don't know whether ospreys make such cognitive decisions, or whether the urge to reproduce overrides any reasoning.
I thought that Odin would return to his former behavior by now. I know he is a young bird, but his instincts appeared to be well developed last year. It would be interesting to know what has triggered the change. Thanks for your research and comment!!!
Edited to say: EJ had a headless fish today. Maybe Odin gave it to her. We aren't seeing what is going on off the nest.
