WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2015

Egads! We have to put the clocks forward tonight!  Seems like we just put them back 10 minutes ago.  :-(

  • A very happy wedding anniversary to you, Heather!  How many years?

Delighted to hear that your youngest daughter has found a suitable house.  That's one less worry for you.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • CLARE only nine years although we are in our eighteenth year together! OH and I met in later life after we had both been widowed, me in 1993 and OH in 1997. I had no idea of marrying again. My OH was bereft in every sense of the word and like a rudderless ship. His daughter accepted the fact that he hadn't been widowed for a year when we met but his son found it harder as he had been extremely close to his Mum. There has never been any unpleasantness though, OH's son is like his father,a very easy going man.

  • Good Morning Everyone. Another bright sunny morning. 4.1c

Annette, You sound so relaxed, having just severed the main water pipe. Maybe too much water for the garden. LOL

Heather, A belated HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. I was so pleased to read that your daughter has now found a house. You must be so relieved.

  • Good afternoon all a rather dull day here now after a very bright morning but it is still fairly windy. Had a very nice weekend with son and his wife. On Saturday we made our way in to Inverness and they trailed me about before we went for our lunch at the Mustard Seed. I had a haggis starter followed by sea bass and then some kind of strawberry sweet all washed down with a nice bottle of wine.

I also managed to get a new pair of shoes which I have been promising myself for quite some time but when you have someone with you it seems to make it easier. On Sunday went for lunch to the Mosset Tavern where I had the Sunday Roast then an apple and raspberry crumble with custard so this week I will cut down a bit.

On road home from Inverness called in at Brodie and bought some of their excellent tablet which I bring home and limit myself to one square per day.

The journey home on Monday was quite eventful as we encountered a fallen tree on the line which held us up and then we had to wait at Birnam to let the North going train through which then we were told anyone going to stations in Fife would have to change at Perth as the train was going non stop to Edinburgh from Perth so I was about an hour later getting home. Now I am just getting my washing and ironing done.

  • Good to hear from you, George, and to see that you have enjoyed your weekend away- the eating parts sounded good!! Glad too, that you got the shoes you needed. Bit of a drama getting home for you, though!
  • Heather - Belated Happy Anniversary to you & your OH, and nice to hear about your lunch out to celebrate.
  • We are still bathed in sunshine here, and walked into the nearby town this morning to take some photographs and poke around the shops. Its a case of slap on your sunscreen, and wear a hat! Lots of folks were arriving in the town by bus, and heading straight for nearby beaches to enjoy the sunshine and the fact that high tide is mid afternoon at the moment, so good for swimming! I have only paddled around in the shallows, but my OH has been swimming twice - its extremely cold here as its the Atlantic Ocean! Edit - Should add, that yesterday we took our friends on a journey to visit a nearby port, as he is the man who fell down & badly gashed his arm. They did not hire a car and so have had a somewhat restricted holiday, due to his needing to keep his wound clean. He is much healed now, on the mend, and they both enjoyed a coffee with us on the front & a look around, plus a trip to the biggest supermarket where we all bought meat & veg.
  • p.s. I'm beginning to get excited now at the prospect of another Osprey Season!! Not long to go!! (Don't arrive extra early, EJ, before I get home!)

  • First half of the morning was bright and reasonably mild, so we rescheduled the day and got the second veg patch prepared, as well as some other garden tidying, before the rain came through. It is already getting brighter again, and the rain is getting lighter. I have postponed the baking to tomorrow, when OH will be out having the car serviced; baking is always easier when I am here on my own! J just phoned; his car has been prepared for the MoT – just needed a new handbrake cable – so he is waiting to hear that it is ready to be collected. OH and I will go to Bird Club this evening without the likelihood of getting wet!

Lynette – pleased about the swim, and thanks for all those animals and birds from cameras. I don’t find time to watch them these days, so it’s good to be updated. The Butterflies were amazing, and I love seeing the Elephants!

Brenda – pleased to see your spring bulbs are blooming now. I found another container of tête à tête this morning which are only just showing buds; I must have planted them deeper than the earlier ones.

Annette – perhaps you need to get away before you do any more damage with your spade!

Heather – belated congratulations to you both for yesterday; good to see you went out to celebrate with lunch. So pleased to see that your Daughter has secured a house to rent. Is it still in Elgin, and without a change of schools for the Granddaughters?

George – thanks for letting us know you arrived home safely, although the journey took a long time. It sounds as if you ate well: I would also chose the Haggis followed by Sea Bass. I don’t eat a lot of fish, but that is one I chose in restaurants (especially if served with Samphire). New shoes and Sunday Roast sound good too, and Brodie Tablet!

Linda – pleased holiday is still going well. My hairdresser told me she is taking her 5 year-old to Tenerife in early July; she had to weigh up the summer heat against cheaper cost before the English school holidays start.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • I've got an interview tomorrow morning - fingers crossed!!
