IN THE HUMAN BREAST HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL
In February we said goodbye to Millicent, EJ's 100th chick to fledge from the famous nest. We continue to watch Breagha, our only remaining tagged osprey juvenile.
In March we await the arrival of EJ and Oden, to start another family of fascinating bobbleheads.
"Still very early yet."
I agree Keith. I think we are all over-eager. I'm not worried yet - just anxious.
03(97) who arrived at Nest B in Rutland was busy at work today.
Lovely Pictures.
03/97 SETLLES IN
His mate last year arrived four days after he did so we eagerly await her arrival and maybe the first active nest.
YES - Over Eager:) and there will be cassualties on the way and some may not return.
Last year apart from 5R was a good return rate at known nests.
However we take the bad with the good and some great additions will shoot - new nests and new pairings. Thats the life of ospreys.

It was a great day as I saw 8 Welsh birds that day.
"there will be cassualties on the way"
KEITH!!!! Now look what you've done!!!!I look forward to EJ & ODIN's return, but always at the back of my mind is the knowledge they MIGHT NOT! But I'm trying not to think of that for another week.
"Thats the life of ospreys" yes and that's the ROLLLER COASTER RIDE of watching them.
AHHHH, the book!!
Keith, have you made your official guess for arrival date yet? I miss your formula.
I always think Ospreys will arrive when they want to although they are pretty clockwork.
Things do influence them the weather mainly winds and when they get closer the days can be dreich and does not encourage flying and that is why it is an estimated guess.
Today was one of them days in Aberdeenshire and doubt if any birds would have wanted to land on any of the nests I looked at today and would have been a hang around day.
However as yet have not posted an arrival date for EJ but probably will do so at the eleventh hour.
My formulae has not changed to estimate this.
Must be hot in Florida.
Great Early News this morning that the Glaslyn Female was seen on the nest at 8:00 AM. Now with two followed birds home I feel it is UK Osprey Season. Waiting to see my first live UK arrival as I have already seen a couple in 2015 on Bioko.
I think this is the earliest we have seen her home and first time she has beaten 11/98 her mate home although I understand in 2013 both arrived on 24th - Female seen earlier followed by the male delivering a fish a couple of hours later.
They are generally close together though and expect the male home in the next few days or maybe he will bring her a meal soon.
I am hoping that the Strathallan T in the Park pair are not too late - it appears a very large cherry picker parked beside the nest awaits them. I am golfing near there this afternoon so will take a look in. Mr and Mrs Roberts apparantly neeed this super cherry picker to do maintenance on their paths.
