Looks really cold at LG and LotL tonight with the LG nest under snow? Also noticed earlier - before the snow arrived - that the light at LG isn't nearly as bright as it has been. And poor Marge all on her ownsome at LotL.
Extreme weather warning from the Met Office issued earlier, for the Highlands area.
Snow will become persistent across higher ground overnight and into Tuesday, giving accumulations of 5 to 10cm, mainly on ground above 150m, with localised accumulations of 15cm above 250m. Strong northeast winds will cause drifting on hill routes. Snow may fall to lower levels inland at times giving accumulations of 2 to 5cm though rain or sleet is more likely near the coast. Rain and snow will turn lighter during the afternoon.
The public are advised to take extra care and refer to Traffic Scotland for further advice on road conditions.

She sure doesn't like the snow as she is perched right on the edge of the nest on the right, so we can only partly see her.

Hi jsb, just answered to you in "weekly chat" :)

BBC Radio 4 at 8.00am, are forecasting blizzards in north Scotland.
I just logged in to see the snow piling up on the nest. I live in an area with weather like LG and it looks like the snow is at least 3" deep on the nest and it is still snowing
Poor EJ !!
Richard may need to go to Tesco's and buy some plastic sheeting to build a shelter for her.
Or get out the ladder and shovel the nest .

Still snowing at LG. Hope EJ has brought her thermals.
Well, what with sand storms and then north winds when Odin finally crosses the Channel, it seems highly unlikely he'll be arriving today.
Tiger: The most recent images of the snowy nest are from the streaming video, so no time & date stamp. last year's images were from the still camera, which has the time and date stamp. At the moment that one is still showing the bird feeders. Methinks that LG surprised the Loch Garten team by returning a few days earlier than exptected, and with all the extra arrangements re power etc going on this season, a few little finishing touches like sound on the video camera, switching to night vision and focussing the still camera on the oprey nest will have to wait their turn. ;-)
Smiles, Jan.
Good morning all what a day for poor EJ. Just switched on and she is perched right on the edge of the nest. I must admit my heart sank when I saw all that snow. I see Tigers says that EJ has seen snow before but I wonder how this bodes for their breeding. Would they be able cope with this really diverse weather. I shall be worrying ny heart out about her. As yet I have not looked at LOL but can see it is the same from earlier posts. Going to catch up on yesterday's posts now as I have not looked since 4.00 and I have about 60 emails to open. See you all later.
