Happy New Week all
I'm beginning to think I need to try the Bob Geldof technique of asking nicely.......you know, visit lots of workplaces and say 'gimme a ****** job!'. I hate being unemployed.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
So sorry, Clare. As the song goes, "just pick your self up, dust yourself down and start all over again ". The right job for you, has to be out there. Best wishes.
On the plus side I've just had a beautiful kestrel fly over the garden! Woo Hoo!!
CLARE- Onwards and upwards :-))))
CLARE sorry about the job. Think knocking on doors is a good idea.
Miserable day here. What's the betting Benson refuses an afternoon walk.
Morning all:
Clare: Dang! Sorry about the job. Been there; done that, and likely felt the same as you probably do. Don't these silly people realize what a golden opportunity they missed by not hiring us? Very short-sighted of them. :-)
Lynette: Just read last evening's posts to see your Dau has quit her job. Good that she's going to check with ACAS about the legal aspect. My sister finally took an employer to industrial court (or whatever they call it in the UK) due to really awful gender discrimination and harassment at the hands of a Neanderthal who was trying to force her out (she won the day - and got her pension, which had been in peril) - and now my niece is working for a private college that seems to think it doesn't have to honor established employment procedures, so good luck to your daughter. Re church membership, I'm sure they'll be calling on you for all kinds of committee "opportunities" so be careful you don't take on too much. :-)
AQ/Lindybird: You'll probably stand a better chance of finding a potato masher you like in a charity shop or garage sale.
AQ: Have you planned any trips for this year?
OG: Your comment about my sleeping well after all the Oscar excitement was interesting coz I actually slept straight through the whole night for the first time in eons! Maybe I should've recorded the show for future reference.... :-)) That osprey jigsaw really is lovely - and so unusual (as I mentioned; I've never seen them here, but then I haven't looked either).
Margo: Lady Gaga's stage name (real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta!) put me off her completely, so I didn't realize she had actual talent! But then Queen Latifah had the same effect until I heard her singing jazz under her own name, Dana Owens. The only thing about Lady Gaga's Sound of Music performance was that I was a bit distracted by all her tattoos, which were hard to reconcile with the movie image of Maria. What would the nuns have said! :-) Still, even Julie Andrews seemed gob-smacked by her performance.
Fascinating chat about kitchen gadgets - they do keep reinventing the wheel. I look at some of the newer contraptions and think, "but I have a knife/fork/spatula/strainer that already does the job very well."
Must get organized and then off to the whales. They've spotted 35 northbound so far in just the first week! Yay! Fingers crossed something will show up on my shift today.
Annette: Thanks for the info on Lady GaGa - it put me off as well, until I heard her sing "live" one day on TV. She can certainly sing, so I don't know why she has gone in for such gimmicky things as the awful dresses etc. I heard just a snippet of the Oscar performance on the News, so hope to catch up with it on the PC somewhere, as it certainly sounded good.
Margo: So very pleased to hear that Billie is doing so well now. Amazing what a change of diet can do for an animal. You do seem to have a good vet.
Been putting stuff in the cases: I'm ahead of myself now, as I don't usually do that until the evening before we go, to save on creasing. But as Eldest is going to appear shortly, hungry, and we need the space, I'm nearly done! Time to do my fingernails tomorrow, now!! I'm taking the Tablet with me this time, even though it will weigh extra. So I should be able to get in touch whilst away, but don't expect much from me, I have a lot of books and walks to catch up on!!
Brenda: I would be extremely grateful if you would text me, nevertheless, if anything unusual happens on the Osprey front, such as EJ arriving a whole two weeks early, or anything!! Then I can be alerted!
Brenda – funny, I didn’t have you down as an elephant person – I expected you to be a big-cat person! J is still not 100%, but seems to be coughing less, at last; OH’s seems to be all in his head (sorry, I don’t mean he is imagining it, but that he has a cold in his nose!)
Margo – good to see a long post from you, I hope this means you are feeling somewhat better than last week. Pleased to see Billie is so well on her new food.
Clare – so sorry about the job you really hoped for, but at least they let you know. I assume you are still waiting to hear from the other two. I hope more will appear on the horizon soon: keep trying. Pleased you saw a kestrel this morning, to cheer you up a bit.
Linda – I did enjoy Esio Trot, and I thought having a narrator was a clever idea to give suspense towards the denouement. Pleased to see you found a bed for Son under the packing!
Dibnlib – miserable here too - and Granddaughter was on Facebook in London saying it was too hot so she thinks it is time for shorts (but she does wear them over leggings a lot of the time)!
Annette – wonderful about the Whale numbers so far; I hope you saw plenty today!
Really cold wind here today, but no rain until about 5pm. Got the seeds I wanted – still the wrong brand, but don’t want to be chasing around any further. We did have lunch: really thick “Country Vegetable” soup with a chunk of rustic bread; OH needed cheesecake to finish, but I found the soup very filling, and warming.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Linda, Never a problem. I will gladly text you. Enjoy the evening with your son, if he arrives early enough :-))
OG. I do like the big cats, as well, but I think my favourite is the elephants. You have made me think LOLI know my daughter would not agree with your Granddaughter about London being too hot. She is actually moving house this Friday and was moaning last night that because she has packed so much and everywhere looked so bare, she felt so cold.
Margo: I'm so glad Billie has recovered! I hope you're feeling better.
Lindy: I hope you have a joyful and relaxing holiday!!!
Annette: I saw this article and video from Santa Barbara this afternoon. It's very cute, but I'm sorry about the sea lion's fish shortage.
