Thanks Mary and Tiger. Looking forward to Maya having chicks this year--fingers crossed!
Kind regards, Ann
Ann - Yes everything crossed for Maya this year, she deserves a good partner, somehow when I think of her my brain still calls her Mrs.5R and I don't think that will every change :-)
Mary, I, too, think of her as Mrs 5R as well as Maya. It was a real blow when 5R did not return last year, especially since he and his family were the first UK Ospreys Hubby and I had seen in person only the August before (2013) so we were awaiting his arrival along with his ever-patient mate! She held out, waiting for him for far longer than I expected her to wait, poor lady! Maybe she should have been named 'Fiver' (or 'Fiverette'!)
Ann, I think 5R will be remembered for a long long time, I never dreamed he would not return, I always imagined him taking over from 03(97) so it was so sad when he didn't return. I hope 33 comes back in good time this year and they carry on from where they left off at the end of last season. It must have been harder for you having seen 5R in the flesh.
Mary, Yes, those who followed or saw 5R will remember him. I thought it was a lovely gesture when the Dyfi Osprey project people gave one of last year's chicks a ring with '5R' in remembrance of the sadly missed Rutland 5R. And those 2 Dyfi 2014 chicks are related to 5R--if I remember rightly, their grandmother (their mother Glesni's Mum) is a sister of 5R. Those with better memories will, I trust, correct me if that is wrong!

Of course the new 5R is Deri and adorns the from of the new book "Ospreys in Wales The First Ten Years" by Emyr Evans
Only 50 days until 3 (97) is due back.
