RUTLAND OSPREY PROJECT 2015

Just popped into have a quick peek at the nests and Yes Mike I thought is this another EGG or the original but where are the geese, Mr raven/ crow will soon be around if they are not careful..

I don't think it can be a second given that the first one was only laid this morning. Quite why it has been left like that after all the efforts to cover earlier is a mystery. Like you I am amazed the corvids have not had it.

This is what happened, but from not as good a viewpoint as KATE's snap.

Jackdaws have been to the nest but not interfered with the egg at all.  (Is the small one a male or a youngster or a different bird altogether?)

Then this EG couple spent a lot of time on the nest, with the (presumably) female tending the egg and incubating, when suddenly they were both driven off by a lone goose... who didn't stay!

Well spotted, CIRRUS - we wouldn't have known unless ROP were watching.

There was a bit longer gap between the goose leaving (she had been incubating, her partner had been with her but already left) and the corvids flying in.  Thank goodness it was "just" an egg, no baby bird inside.  And thank goodness it wasn't an osprey egg - but if we do have osp eggs here the parents better be ultra-watchful!

Good capture Scylla ... did that pair know it was Easter?

The crucial thing here is, as has been said, any Osprey occupants need to watch out.
